My school is closed for 4 weeks due to COVID-19. I will be reading and recommending a lot during this time.
Book 1 - The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams - 13-year old Kyra, who has grown up in a polygamist commune, has been "chosen" to marry her 60-year old uncle.
Book 2 - A High Five for Glenn Burke by @PhilBildner
5 out of 5 stars - This book is what the world needs now - Read it!

Book 3 - Hey Kiddo by Jarrett J. Krosoczka is a graphic memoir so unique like nothing I have read before. The artwork and the authenticity of the writing had a profound impact on me. Thanks for sharing your story @StudioJJK
I forgot to add my picture of Hey, Kiddo
Book 4 - Words on Bathroom Walls by Julia Walton. I LOVED this book. Adam is a junior in high school living with schizophrenia. He tells his story with honesty and humor. I highly recommend. @JWaltonwrites
Book 5 - The Wave by Todd Strasser - this is a good followup to our classroom reading of The Diary of Anne Frank. Based on a true story of how a teacher created a fascist community of students in order to teach them about Nazism. Thanks you @Toddstrasser
Book 6 - Genuine Fraud by @elockhart 5 of 5 stars to this unique suspense-filled thriller. This was just the distraction I needed right now. My brain is still processing the twists and turns.
Book 7 - I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by @ErikaLSanchez The back cover calls it laugh-out-loud funny, and it was, but I also found it sad and haunting. I really feel for Julia. A great book for our classroom library.
Book 8 - Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by @JasonReynolds83 and @DrIbram This not a history book is necessary reading. Every page found me opening more tabs to ask more questions to get more answers. So inspiring and enlightening. Excited to share with my students!
I followed this book with watching True Justice: Bryan Stevenson's Fight for Equality currently streaming on Hulu. This excellent documentary challenges the viewer to confront the racial inequality and injustice (past and present) in America.
