Isolation Movie #1

What should I watch tonight?
First response decides!

The Apartment
Burden of Dreams
Safety Last
Tokyo Drifter
Watched Tokyo Drifter. Not my favorite Suzuki (that’s still Gate of Flesh) but I really loved a lot of this movie, especially the Western saloon brawl and this shot:
Isolation Movie #2

Now what should I watch tonight?
First response decides!

The Apartment
Burden of Dreams
Outrage
Safety Last
P sure I just fell in love with Shirley MacLaine
Isolation Movie #3

Cooking a pork loin rn but will be ready for my next movie soon.
First response decides what I watch tonight!

Burden of Dreams
Outrage
Safety Last
Searching
#nowwatching Searching! Been wanting to check this out for a while. Looking forward to seeing how it’s executed.
This movie is bullshit. A Mac wouldn’t play an .avi file like that in QuickTime without giving you shit.

Gotta love seeing that Windows XP desktop though.
“What is a tumbler???”
Isolation Movie #4

A re-watch.

Also birthday movie! Started last night just before dawn and finished today.
Isolation Movie #5

Inaugurating my Criterion Channel with a re-watch of one of my favorites. One of the films that’s most inspired me from the master Jean Cocteau: Orpheus.
Yes
Also yes
Isolation Movie #6

The Nightingale

Missed this for the brief time it was playing in a theatre in Dallas. Known it was on Hulu but haven't got around to it til now. Excited to see Jennifer Kent's followup to The Babadook.
Isolation Movie #7

Fuck yes
Isolation Movie #8

Again.

p.28
Isolation Movie #9

Emma.

Family movie night. Would have seen this again in theatres so here we are watching on VOD.
I ship the hell out of Emma and Knightley. This dance scene is HAWT

Isolation Movie #11

Colossal
Isolation Movie #12

Midsommar, theatrical cut
Good news everyone I was crowned May Queen
Isolation Movie #13

Watching Bleed for This for the first time.
Isolation Movie #14

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

First home viewing. I might just have to deem this the best Star Wars movie solely because it features porgs AND Ewoks.
Isolation Movie #14

Fuck it. It’s 3am but I’m putting on The Last Jedi. Haven’t watched it since before The Rise of Skywalker came out and I need to experience how great it is again because it’s my favorite Star War.
Does streaming Wrestlemania while video chatting with high school friends count as an isolation movie?
Isolation Movie #15

Jean Cocteau: Autobiography of an Unknown

Cocteau is your stereotypical French artist but he’s so damn interesting. Could listen to him for hours.
Isolation Movie #16

Debatably the funniest comedy of the last 10 years.
In my mind the only movies in serious competition for that title are its own sequel and Popstar.
I need to do this triple feature
No clue how I keep breaking this thread...

Isolation Movie #18

Another Edgar Wright joint!
Isolation Movie #19

Never seen this before but I’ve heard how insane it is.
Isolation Movie #20

Family movie night re-watch
Isolation Movie #21

Family movie night continues with more Vin Diesel!
Definitely one of the MCU movies that made more of an impression on me. If only because in Infinity War when they said Xandar was decimated I thought "oh no, I hope John C. Reilly's character is okay."
Isolation Movie #21

Everyone else is asleep so I'm checking out my list on the Criterion Channel and knocking off one that's been on my watchlist for a long time.
HOLY SHIT THE LITTLE BROTHER FROM TEEN WITCH PLAYS A VAMPIRE THAT'S HUNDREDS OF YEARS OLD IN THIS AND I AM DYING.
Well Mae is one of my favorite vampires now.
Isolation Movie #22

The Skywalker Legacy

Some people told me they liked the making-of doc for The Last Jedi more than the movie itself and I didn’t understand, yet here I am 2 years later.
This did make me appreciate the movie more. Might even end up liking it someday.
Isolation Movie #23

Shit I started watching The Director and the Jedi even though I have work tomorrow.
Finished re-watching this tonight. Star Wars fans, including myself, didn’t deserve a movie that good. Ugh. Now I‘m in the mood to re-watch The Last Jedi.
Carve that on my gravestone.

JOHN O’KAIN
1990-2020
Still In The Mood To Watch The Last Jedi
I’m just assuming none of us are making it out of this year alive.
Isolation Movie #24

Watched it with commentary while working.
Isolation Movie #25

The best one besides The Last Jedi #fightme
Padmé: Hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo.

@lillwizzle: Ugh, you dumb bitch.
Isolation Movie #27

So many other things on my list but watched this because of Ari Aster's tweet about it on Thursday. It did not disappoint.

Also, I just caught that I started numbering my films incorrectly last weekend. Correcting now.
Isolation Movie #28

Re-watching.

Good morning to Florence Pugh's accent and Florence Pugh's accent alone.
Oh hey I didn't know who Naomi Ackie was when I first watched this
Isolation Movie #29

Another re-watch with commentary.
Isolation Movie #30

Since @lillwizzle and I separately re-watched The Force Awakens today, here I am yet again.
“Why are you here, Rey from Nowhere?” is such a great line.
Isolation Movie #31

Guess what.
More Star Wars?
You know it.
Hux and Pryde have Krennic/Thrawn vibes going on with their rivalry when Pryde talks about correcting the mistake of Starkiller base. And of course Hux is the punching bag like Krennic.
Sext: *dick pic*
Her response: “Serpent! Serpent! Serpent!”
Poe saying “I don’t like bones” and asking Zori “can I kiss you?” is a hate crime
Maybe the real Skywalker was the friends we made along the way
More than 1/4 of the movies I’ve watched since “isolating” have been Star Wars movies... I may need to calm down on them now.
Isolation Movie #33

First-time watch of an anime classic.

Watched this via Hoopla with my library card. Remember to support your local library and you can still use it for digital books, audiobooks, movies, and music even during shelter-in-place.
Isolation Movie #34

Got the news that a couple I really like got engaged today. Was going to watch Portrait of a Lady on Fire to celebrate but watching Pacific Rim instead. Same thing, right?
"Newton created a neural bridge from garbage and Drifted with a Kaiju."
The Otachi/Leatherback fight has got to be one of the most fun sequences in all of cinema, right?
Isolation Movie #35

Watched last night since it was about to expire on Criterion Channel & it's on my list of Best Picture winners I haven't seen. Should've picked something else; I wasn't in the right mood for it. Beautifully filmed but found it a bit of a tedious biopic.
Definitely need to revisit this one day.
Isolation Movie #36

There’s probably nothing more pure than Carrie Fisher acting opposite an Ewok.
The song the Ewok sings as he’s adding wood to the pyre under Han. The original Crazy Frog. I love it.
This is saddest moment in any Star Wars movie. Change my mind.
Anyone who doesn’t love Ewoks can get right the fuck outta town.
Gonna fuck with some of the SXSW stuff on Amazon.
Isolation Movie #37

SXSW doc feature on Amazon.

Empathy is a helluva drug.
Really enjoyed this shorts "Daddio" and "Vert" last night. Going to watch some more shorts and another feature tonight.
Isolation Movie #38

Selfie

One of the SXSW offerings. At its best when it’s letting the comedy and characters drive it’s funny stories rather than leaning on its message of the trappings of technology. There’s some good stuff in this cluttered anthology feature.
Also watched and really enjoyed the shorts Modern Whore, Still Wylde, No Crying at the Dinner Table, and Waffle from the SXSW offerings on Amazon Prime right now. Definitely worth checking out.
Isolation Movie # 39

First-time watch of this classic on Sunday evening. The scale of this movie was insane.
Isolation Movie #40

Keeping the Bible train rolling with what may be my favorite Darren Aronofsky movie.
Fun fact: every poster for Noah is terrible.
Isolation Movie #41

Without Name

Alternate Title: People Doing Weird Shit in the Woods While on Mushrooms as Ominous Music Plays
Isolation Movie #42

First time watching the 2003 director's cut. It's basically the same as the theatrical cut with one inconsequential scene added and some minor cuts to existing scenes. Will probably watch theatrical cut on future viewings.
Isolation Movie #43

Watched the classic original last week so now we're watching the remake and will most likely be shitting on it the entire time.
Isolation Movie #43

Saw the first 20 and last 20 minutes of Ben-Hur so not counting it but kinda glad I missed it.

So this will be #43: David Lowery's adaptation of Pete's Dragon, which I much prefer to the original that I only saw recently and by which I was utterly baffled.
60 days into my isolation and I've still only watched 43 movies. I've still been going into my non-essential "essential" job and have been pretty productive in other areas, but still thought I'd have watched more considering social life is non-existent.
Isolation Movie #44

Finished the audiobook of Annihilation earlier this week, prompting this rewatch. The more I thought about this movie after seeing it, I loved it more and more. The more I've thought about it this past week, the more I loved it this viewing.
Isolation Movie #45

Not sure if this counts as a feature but I'm counting it.

So interesting to watch Scorsese at work. Of course this is all just footage from set, but he makes it look effortless. Knows exactly what he wants & is so affable in
Isolation Movie # 46

Father-in-law is watching Harry Potter for the first time with us. “Slim’n’fast. It’s the dietary house!” Destination, Dad Joke City.
Isolation Movie # 47

I said earlier today that I was basically obligated to watch it so here I am. But then I found out my sis-in-law’s bf had never seen it before so this is kinda the best possible situation to watch it tonight. #WhatALovelyDay
Isolation Movie #48

Re-watch in full swing. Prepare for 6 more of these to roll in over the next few days.
Isolation Movie #49

I’ve only seen Sword of Trust but several of Lynn Shelton’s other movies have been on my watchlist for years. Checking one of them out tonight. #RIP

Also, thx to my library and Hoopla for making it available to stream. #SupportYourLocalLibrary
Isolation Movie #50

Was going to rent this digitally but bought it instead on a whim. Glad I did! Weird and fun and I like everyone involved.
Takes a while to get around to what it has to say, but how can I complain about a well-made sci-fi movie, especially when it has this shot in it?
Isolation Movie #51

Bought a new OLED TV today and I loooove it. Have broken in every new TV/projector I’ve gotten since 2006 with a viewing of Prisoner of Azkaban and this wound up being no different. Huzzah for already being partway through a HP rewatch!
Isolation Movie #52
Isolation Movie #53

After 13 years and I don’t know how many viewings this is still my least favorite HP movie by far. Which is a shame because it’s one of my favorite books in the series.
Isolation Movie #54

I’ve got my gripes with it but I love this movie and this book so much.
Isolation Movie #55

Starting a chronological Clone Wars watch (still haven't watched the new season) so here this is...
Isolation Movie #56

This has been a strange rewatch of the series. Just listened to all the audiobooks over the past few months and I’m liking the movies less in comparison.

The Yates movies in particular have such a strange rhythm to them.
Isolation Movie #57

Re-watch complete. Here's my revised ranking of the movies after this latest run through:

Prisoner of Azkaban (duh)
Half-Blood Prince
Philosopher's Stone
Chamber of Secrets
Goblet of Fire
Deathly Hallows Part 2
Deathly Hallows Part 1
Order of the Phoenix
Isolation Movie #58

Watched this in 4K on the new OLED while FINALLY setting up my 7.1 surround system. Glorious.
Isolation Movie #59

I’ve had access to someone’s Disney+ since it first came out and this is the first non-Star Wars thing I’ve watched on it.
Isolation Movie #60

We‘ve been talking a lot about Greek mythology so here we are.
Isolation Movie #61

The 2003 director's cut with the commentary. Cool hearing Scott go into his musings about what will eventually become Prometheus and Covenant.
Isolation Movie #62

More good-bad Greek mythology movies from the early aughts!
Isolation Movie #58/63

And I was doing so well at keeping actual track of what I've been watching until I remembered I watched this over the long weekend. Despite forgetting that I watched it, I actually enjoyed it!
Isolation Movie #64

Keeping this train rolling of Greek myth movies that are fun for the siblings to watch together. As messy as these movies are, some design elements are VERY cool. And it’s ridiculous how good he cast for these two have been. I’ll watch Bill Nighy in anything.
Isolation Movie #65

First rewatch since I saw this in theatres. Can’t decide if Rinko Kikuchi or Rachel Weisz is the highlight here.
Isolation Movie #66

The nightly sibling movie patty theme for this week is not stopping.
Isolation Movie #67

Kurosawa’s big influence on Lucas for Star Wars. Only 10 minutes in and the similarities are already staggering.
Isolation Movie #68

We’re doing another Snyder tonight. An actual good (but flawed) superhero movie despite what ppl say and the second best DCEU movie behind Birds of Prey.
Isolation Movie #69 (nice)

Dipping into the Jackie Chan collection on the Criterion Channel. Digging it. Never thought I’d see Jackie pissing on ghosts. Good stuff.
Isolation Movie #70

I walked into family movie time 10 minutes in and decided to stay. I regret nothing; this movie is charming af.
Isolation Movie #71

Going back Into the Snyder-Verse.
“Batman’s such a fuddy-duddy.” - [Borat voice] MY WIFE
Isolation Movie #72

To lighten the mood.
Isolation Movie #73

Cool sets and costumes. Gerard Butler yells a lot.
Isolation Movie #74

It got brought up in conversation so we wound up putting it on because why not.
Isolation Movie #75

Pretty sure knowing the twist going in made it even more boring than it would have been otherwise. I loved the perspective change camera moves though.
Isolation Movie #76

The regular cut.
Isolation Movie #77

One of the most interesting actors playing one of my favorite novelists? Of course I liked it.
Isolation Movie #78
MELANCHOLIA (2011), dir. Lars von Trier
Isolation Movie #79

I unapologetically like this one. Sue me.
“I don’t know, I just think he looks like Cat Litter Man. I hate it. I don’t like looking at it.” - @lillwizzle concerning Sandman
Isolation Movie #80

Watched this for the first time in a long time last night. Forgot how great the visual & sound design are for this movie. I know people complain about the elements that it lifts from other sci-fi properties, but I think it puts them together so well. Love it.
Isolation Movie #81

More superhero stuff.
Not gonna lie the scene where Magneto turns the cops’ guns back on them owns pretty hard rn
Isolation Movie #82

Kevin Conroy is the definitive Batman. Change my mind.
Isolation Movie #83

I remember my dad taking me to see this when I was 13 and explaining to him how important the image of the Phoenix in the water was as we were leaving the theatre.
Isolation Movie #84

I guess I have access to HBO Max but not through Roku or my LG smart TV so that’s hella dumb...

But I NEEDED to watch this on the new OLED TV so connected my laptop & thankfully it’s not blocking the HDMI signal like other apps *coughcriterionchannelcough*
Why is this movie not available in 4K? That’s a crime.
“Cookies need love, like everything does.”

“Pancakes are love.”

“You are a bastard.”

Have I ever mentioned how much I love the Wachowskis?
“This kind of company scares me. People like you have way too much money. When someone gets that kind of money they start thinking the rules everybody else plays by don’t mean squat to them.”

Again, have I mentioned how much I love the Wachowskis?
“That's what racing is about. It has nothing to do with cars or drivers. All that matters is power, and the unassailable might of money.”

Roger Allum is the perfect capitalist villain. It’s exquisite.
“Are you ready to put away your toys and grow up? Are you ready to make more money in one year than your father made in his whole life? Are you ready to become a REAL race car driver? Then sign that contract!”

This movie is pure art/heart vs. money and I couldn’t love it more.
Isolation Movie #85

”I could watch an entire movie of nothing but Magneto going around killing a bunch of Nazis.” - my wife
Yeah we skipped The Last Stand and Origins: Wolverine.
Lmao remember how bad the posters for this movie were?
Isolation Movie #86

Finished up the Cheryl Dunye shorts on Criterion Channel so onto her first feature.
Isolation Moien#87

Well this makes for a strange double feature tonight.

I’ve read the book but haven’t seen the movie. Wanted to watch it before I start on the @Kingcast19.
Holy shit Schwarzenegger’s character is a cop who gets arrested by fellow officers and sent to prison because he refuses to fire on unarmed protesters.
“I’m not into politics; I’m into survival.”
“Nowadays it’s the same thing.”
Dude comes out in a Tron suit covered in Christmas lights and now opera is playing. Shit’s ridiculous.
Isolation Movie #88

Back to DC Land.
Isolation Movie #89

Superhero whiplash. X-Men again...
This is still one of the most comic book-ish movies there is with how fast & loose it plays with the chronology & canon. I dig it.
Isolation Movie #90

Watching franchises in order of release is for suckers.
Isolation Movie #91

Crazy to know that 9/11 happened mid-production of this movie and that Lee not only incorporated it into the film, but made those additions some of the most resonant parts of the movie.
Isolation Movie #92

Jim Gordon's dirty cop partner says that Gordon not being on the take makes the rest of them nervous.
Gordon responds with "I'm no rat!"
Jim Gordon: Bad Cop.
Isolation Movie #93

Haha everyone hates Harvey because he prosecuted dirty cops. The hero Gotham needs.
Isolation Movie #94

Never seen this one before, but Hulk beating up Poodle-Hulk is my new favorite superhero fight.
Isolation Movie #95

This week is apparently nothing but superhero movies and Spike Lee.
I really loved his movie. The humanity with which Lee treats all the characters in this film is astounding.
Isolation Movie #96

I’ve never seen any of the adaptations of this story before (one of my favorite novels). About halfway through this and it’s an astounding adaptation so far.
Okay it starts to fall apart once he becomes the Count... Oh well. It’s not bad. It’s just not the novel.
Isolation Movie #97

Moving on to another adaptation that’s nothing like the book(s) but I oddly still enjoyed it despite it getting a horrible response upon its release.

But... I only saw it opening night at the theatre. Let’s see if I still feel that way.
Okay yeah not nearly as enjoyable the second time around. It’s still great to see Dark Tower iconography on the big screen, and the casting for Roland, Walter, and Jake is perfect, but the amalgamation of story elements from across the 7 books is so jarring and nonsensical.
Isolation Movie #98

“Police work is as much about preventing crime as it is about fighting crime. Most importantly it is about procedural correctness in the exercising of unquestionable moral authority.”

Nicholas Angel is literally the only “good cop” and he’s fictional.
Literally everyone in the room cackled in the same way the characters do at this part of the movie.
PUNCH. THAT. SHIT.
I was genuinely hesitant tonight to watch this movie that I love so dearly. But thank God for Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s understanding of the reality of police vs. how it’s portrayed in films.
Films: good police work can only be done when cops buck against the system that limits them.

Hot Fuzz & what the real world SHOULD be: the system exists to hold police accountable and keep them within the moral restraints of their profession.
Danny’s desire to know if Angel “cooked any fools” vs. Angel’s lesson that his notepad and pen are his most valuable pieces of equipment.
Also... NWA. ‘Nuff said.
Isolation Movie #99

This movie exists pretty much just to show us Daniel Radcliffe how he's dressed on the poster. It's slick and has some darkly comedic moments, but pretty hollow.
Isolation Movie #100

100th day isolating at home as much as possible and 100th movie. A rewatch of a damn goodie.
Isolation Movie #101

A re-watch of this beautifully made but horrible to watch movie. Lupita Nyong’o is astounding.
Isolation Movie #102

Why?
Isolation Movie #103

No, really. Why?
Isolation Movie #104

No need to ask why.

Lol this was the 4th movie I watched after sheltering in place and the 104th.
Movies I’ve watched multiple times during COVID isolation:
I was today years old when I realized the Area 51 scientist from Independence Day is Data from Star Trek: TNG.
Isolation Movie #105

I haven’t updated this thread over the past week but of course I’ve still been watching things. Catch up time!
Isolation Movie #106

Feminism meets workers rights film made using nearly entirely blacklisted cast & crew during Hollywood blacklist era.
Isolation Movie #107

Honestly this movie has aged so well. The effects of the alien ships all over the world are incredible. And that speech still hits.
Isolation Movie #108

Left this out when we were doing our marathon of bad, historically inaccurate, but aesthetically baller mythology movies.
Isolation Movie #109

Watched this one tonight. How did this not win the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature? I mean I love American Factory and it was a damn good movie but holy shit this movie...
