it's 2020. voting should be electronic, anonymous, secure, easy, and publicly auditable. 1/6 https://twitter.com/ne0liberal/status/1239761561247457280
i'm sure there is some very good reason why this wouldn't work, but here's the idea:

each election, you're given a unique username and password. these would both be something 70 year old boomers can easily remember, like a series of words accompanied by a summary image. 2/6
on election day (or before), you log on to the election website. you vote. your vote is sent to your phone or computer as a permanent personal record. it is then publicly posted along with your username, along with everyone else's vote and username. 3/6
at no point is the username traceable to you. however, if there is suspicion of fraud or other irregularity, the election could be audited by demanding that a random subset of voters identify themselves and confirm that they voted in accordance with what's publicly posted. 4/6
like i said, i'm sure there's some reason this is a really stupid idea, but even in this half assed form it might be better than "take a few hours off work to go stand in a line, then hope the voting machines don't get fucked with/ballot boxes don't get stuffed". 5/6
as a bonus, this would increase voter turnout, which is surely never a bad thing!

see relevant xkcd for an example of why i'm probably totally wrong and a complete dumb dumb: https://xkcd.com/2030/
