If you're in quarantine and want anime to watch, I'll just, list off a few I like, in a thread. In no particular order for no particular reason. maybe this will help someone, but I mostly just kinda want to try to write little blurbs about things I like.

Symphogear.

I made a whole hour long video about this, but, shortish version: magical girl musical battles. ninjas, androids, Illuminati, also there's a cool uncle who got superhuman strength by watching kung fu movies and exercising. also it's gay and the gay girl punches gods.

A Place Further than the Universe.

bildungsroman adventure about young girls going on a field trip to Antarctica to find meaning and whatever. Extremely well written, directed, animated, voice acted, etc, one of my favorite anime, and Antarctica is not melting in this anime.

Promare

this movie is a magnificent technical feat of stellar, stylistically bold 3D animation and a pure, inspiring rendition of the unfettered human spirit needed to defeat climate change. please watch this movie.

I will make a video about it when my brain is in order.

I also want to make a video about Bloom Into You. (I want to do videos about most things but)

terrific character drama and intimate study of the nuances of romantic relationships through the eyes of an aromantic protagonist, and the art direction is splendid. Easily recommended.

(I also need to read the Bloom Into You manga! for the rest of the story. but I haven't yet, so, let's not be too, ahead there, or whatever.)

Re:Creators

Fictional characters enter the real world and sit down for a chat. and a few fights.

Equal parts anime battle royale and philosophical dialogue about the subjective nature of reality, and a touching showcase of the value of an artist's love. + the soundtrack slaps.

I did a two-part video essay on Re:Creators last year, of which I am quite proud. maybe watch that, if you want

Planet With

ridiculously fast-paced but also insanely efficiently written science fiction/mecha show about a young boy drawn into an intergalactic war after he goes in hiding on Earth when his home planet is destroyed.

very strong pacifist message, and, also generally slaps.

I'll probably return to this thread later ish. if I feel like it, or people actually want more recommendations or, anything. maybe not. but. maybe. I do have lots more I could probably offer. and a lot more anime I've been meaning to watch. so.
