For anyone who is in quarantine and can’t celebrate #StPatricksDay I recommend a day of Irish Films ☘️☘️☘️ These are my suggestions. Please feel free to add your own!!
The Commitments. A glimpse of Dublin before the tiger gives a view of the humour and warmth of the city in the 90s... Dublin’s hardest working band!! “I bet @U2 are shitting themselves”. North American viewers may need a dictionary!! DM me if you have any queries!! 😂😂😂
Sing Street. John Carneys film is an 80s recession era story of a young Dublin kid who influenced by The Cure & Duran Duran starts a band to win a girl!! It’s has the best movie line ever “no one can truly love a man who listens to Phil Collins” 😂
You will laugh and it will make you better. Please note Im happy to recommend any John Carney film.
With that said the movie Once is one of the most beautiful films you’ll see or hear. @Glen_Hansard won an Oscar for this song from the film This amazing song is only equalled by this amazing film. It’s worth it for the music alone.
When Glen asks her... “Do you love him” she replies in Czech... I know what she says so DM my if you really want to know!!
Intermission. Everyone loves Colin Farrell and the opening sequence to this film and the use of “Out of Control” will suck you into a tragic comedy of a series of coincidences and haphazard characters in Dublin. Colm Meaney is a national treasure.
Please beware. If you so watch this film you will want to try brown sauce in your tea.
Lastly despite Farrells looks my favourite Irish actor is Brendan Gleason. So I’m going to recommend The Guard for a funny one or Calvary for a really intriguing drama.
Irish cinema is great and definitely doesn’t get the credit it deserves! Wherever you are enjoy your day, stay safe and hopefully some of these recommendations will lift the spirit. ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
