Can we talk about SWV
For a group that had a huge handful of the biggest hits of the 90s, dominated Pop & R&B radio, sold nearly 30 million records, 1 of the main ones that helped R&B go mainstream, they really was cheated out so much imo. Let me remind y’all real quick:

Weak
Honestly, Top 5 of the biggest R&B songs in the 90s
A song that...to this day is in heavy rotation
the multi-platinum classic hit #1 on R&B and the Hot 100....Fun Fact: Weak was actually written for Charlie Wilson but he didn’t want it, & it was given to SWV

Right Here (Human Nature Remix)
This MJ sampled track became a 90s treasure that still standing the test of times. It was so smooth & heavenly. They were the first act ever that MJ let sample him for free. He was a fan of the girls & also had them open up for him twice on tour

I’m So Into You
This sidechick anthem was yet another hit for the girls, especially in Pop. They were a group that didn’t hold anything back. They kept it real & let it be known to the dude that they feeling him & they ain’t trying to fight it even if he do got a girl

Rain
No this hit song of theirs is not about getting nutted on
which was confirmed by the group & the writer last year. Although recorded/released during the time tensions were high, when they get in that studio, all that flies out the window & they did the damn thang

You’re The One
Another side chick hit of theirs lol they was like “yeeeen ain’t got to tell that heifa shhh”
They know they could make a side chick anthem sound so good lol even if you not about that life, you can’t help but to sing along

Always On My Mind
Definitely one of the most timeless sounding hit songs from this group. The group showcased addictive harmonies & melodies while lead singer Coko & songwriter Brian Morgan go head to head in a back & forth duet

Downtown
The freaky hit song is about basically getting ate out
Taj, Coko & Lelee was letting the dude know, you gotta lick it before you stick it
Definitely wasnt about going shopping

Anything
The down to earth, hood trio enlisted Wu Tang Clan. They were fresh, young & on the come up but when they got w/ SWV on this ? It gave them even more exposure worldwide & it became one of the hottest collabs of the 90s

Use Your Heart
a song that became one of @Pharrell ‘s first written hits in his career. He was young but the gift in him was stirring on the inside and that + the beautiful harmonies/vocals of SWV was pure magic to the ears on this 1996 hit

Can We
The girls & @MissyElliott collaborated for the “Booty Call” Soundtrack, which ended up being a huge hit worldwide in 97’. It was sultry, freaky, & a bop that still slaps to this day

Right Here (Original Version)
Despite the popularity of the Human Nature Mix, the original Right Here became a hit also. It was their first song released & first hit. While the Remix was more laid back & relax, the original was more for the dance scene

Someone
@Diddy was working with literally everybody during the 90s and SWV was one of them that had to slide on through
, this head nodding club track is underrated imo but don’t be fooled it was yet another hit added to the girl’s resume

Tonight’s The Night
The group teamed up with another hit group, Blackstreet. For a late 90s duet
and a hot verse from the late Craig Mack
The song was another notch under SWV belt of hits

It’s All About U
It was moderate but don’t be fooled it was a hit in R&B. The track showcased a familiar sample & lead vocals from Taj & Coko. It was funky, it was laid back, it was a lowkey bop

All Night Long
Set aside for the classic “Waiting To Exhale” Soundtrack. This hidden 90s hit gem, makes you want to dim the light and light a candle
it’s very soothing and oozes that timeless harmony of theirs

Lose My Cool
Hella underrated hit. The girls hooked up with Redman, & released this joint as their 3rd single from their third album

Hey Az
Nas protégé, AZ chose the New Yorkers to feature on his hit song in the late 90s. Although the song features vocals from all 3 ladies, only Coko showed up for the music video. Most likely due to the already boiling drama within the group

Co-Sign
Although they broke up right at the end up of the 90s, got back together in 05’, it wasn’t till 2011 that they released new music. This song got heavy airplay on R&B radio & became a Top 10 hit on the US Adult R&B Chart

Ain’t No Man
Had to throw this one in as a bonus, the ladies came back around in 2016 & dropped their 5th album with some amazing slept on R&B music. They kept the SWV sound but still made it fresh. The song did hit #13 on the Adult R&B Charts

It wasn’t until 2017 that they received their very FIRST award & first honor after all that success and hits, which is crazy....If anybody need a Biopic, it’s SWV & @bet need to hop on it. These ladies are legends in the R&B Culture

Not going to end this just yet, we gotta touch on those Album Cuts foo’
Love the other 90s female groups, but nobody was touching SWV when it came to those album cuts, idc. It was Top Tier Timeless. Nobody was sounding like them. Their albums were a different type of timeless

Anything (Original Version)
Now this Original Version? Mannnnnn
THIS how you open up a debut album
Sounding like angels coming down on a cloud
Taj & Lelee were a big part of those harmonies in their music & Coko was the icing on the cake to finish it off

Love Like This
This is a Remix Of an album cut that was released later in the 00s but I had to include it because whew

It’s About Time
The title track on their debut album was
That whole album is a classic & this definitely one of my favorites from it. Coko better sang

When U Cry
Now this song is a favorite among alot of people. It should’ve been pushed as a single honestly. Those girls was just....mannn they knew how to get you in your feelings quick lol

New Beginning (Interlude)
Don’t get me started on that ‘New Beginning’ album. Their 2nd album is full of gems including this

Surprise Me
Released on their Greatest Hits album in 2000, this song is hella underrated. All 3 had lead parts and they showed out
Leanne, Tamara & Cheryl be sounding good lol

Coming Home
Another gem from their debut album, Coko was doing her church sanging on this one
the way she sang “I’m coming hommmmme” makes me raise my hand up like I’m in service everytime

MCE (Man Crush Everyday)
Want to include this album cut from their 2016 album because y’all.....SWV is one of the FEW 90s groups that’s still sounding the same & putting out good quality fresh music , not missing a step

I know this Coronavirus mess going on but if the @bet Awards still happen at the end of June. SWV need to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Just let them go all out, let them do a good 13 hits in the medley
everyone gon lose their voices singing along. They’ll kill it

SWV also brought groups on tour throughout the 90s to open up for them like Destiny’s Child, Xscape, 702, Total & Jade during the early stages of those groups career
Helping to bring more exposure to them and also being a inspiration to them

Hope you all enjoyed this SWV thread
These legendary R&B heavyweights had alot of impact on R&B music more than people realize or will admit. Almost 30 years in the game and their legacy & music is STILL alive & that speaks volumes
They deserve their

’s
