💜 artansonyeondan’s list of art resources 💜

hello friends!

i often get questions on where to begin studying art and while i am by no means all-knowing i wanted to put together something for those interested. especially now, when people need distractions, why not look at art?
while i do have an art history degree, the good news is that in the age of social media it’s possible for anyone to give themselves an education in art wherever they are in the world. currently many museums worldwide are closed but sharing their collections online!
i happen to work at a job where i am exposed to new art daily, but i also make a point to continue my learning independently. especially for non-western and contemporary art, where i will be the first to admit i am almost fully self-taught.
so without further ado, below are some resources i use to help me refresh my knowledge and discover new art, as well as things i would recommend to someone just dipping their toe in! i will add more as i think of them since i’m sure i’m leaving things out.

WEBSITES
-artforum
-artnet news*
-ARTnews
-artsy* (note: good for both news and learning)
-culture type
-google arts and culture and google museum views**
-the art newspaper
-the met heilbrunn timeline of art history*
**a note on google museum views: this is a really excellent resource for those who live far from major museums or can’t travel. you can take 3D tours of arts institutions and zoom in to the brushstroke level on thousands of masterworks. my profs used an early version in school.
INSTAGRAM
i mostly use instagram to find new works rather than twitter/facebook/etc because i find it to be an easier platform to digest visual content. i’m sure many of my recommendations, especially museums and galleries, also use twitter.

list by username in the doc below:
