an appreciation thread for gfriend’s choreography and the girls as dancers. because i think it needs to be done:
glass bead:

ok first i want to talk about how clean cut their transitions are. they’re ridiculously fast and they don’t even bat an eyelid; not to mention they remain in perfect sync with one another, something that needs intense practice.
next i want to talk about how SHARP their movements are. these are rookies and their movements are so precise, it’s so admirable. it’s not just the sharpness either, every girl puts the perfect amount of energy and power into their moves so they remain in sync
and finally lets talk about the continuous canon, which is a common feature in gfriend’s choreography, and we LOVE to see it. not only do they time it perfectly, each girl blends in as soon as they join it’s as if they’ve just copied eunha and pasted her one after the other
me gustas tu

honestly, this intro needs a part on its own. not only does yuju do the splits while sliding under umji while yerin leapfrogs over them, but the speed and cleanliness of them rejoining the girls to go into the choreo for the first chorus is insane!
this is just another appreciation tweet for the formations that the girls create and move through. they’re so clean cut. they’re untouched when it comes to teamwork imo.
rough

okay but this first verse choreo remains one of my top of all time. however, i could never perform it to the strict sharpness that the girls do. that spin is so controlled AND they’re completely in sync? that’s why they’re the masters of performing
also, rough’s dance break is truly astounding to me. it looks like it should be easy, and in theory it is, HOWEVER!! gfriend perform it with such sharpness and flawlessly, the split-second drop they do without flinching really shows how stable they are as a group of dancers
navillera

the way this choreo is basically impossible unless you can pop. just the girls flexin on their wide-range of talents. they don’t just perform one style, they incorporate various styles and it always fits the song. we HAD to stan
i’m still forever mad that this dance break was so short because the footwork is amazing and so difficult. my ankles hurt thinking about it lmao. (however i’ll get onto footwork when i talk about love whisper, for now let’s focus on their precision!!)
fingertip

this is one of gfriend’s songs where the formations are key in the choreo. they’re really frequent and clean and that’s why they don’t look messy, because they easily could. not to mention the canons that are in this song. they’re *chef’s kiss*
another canon! however this one isn’t a continuous one as they each do one move straight after each other. i also like the shift in the direction of choreography with fingertip as it includes a lot more space ie, they change from being low and close to the floor, to standing tall
ok so twt won’t let me upload the next few tweets i think it’s cause my internet is being rubbish so stay tuned it will come bc i need to rant about summer rain and love whisper
love whisper

i cropped this video because i wanted to focus completely on the feet (i’d do this for the entire song but it would be too long) every single action is so clean cut and this song makes my ankles hurt just thinking about it.
i LOVE the build up to the chorus in this song because not only does it show how sharp and strong their leg movements are, but also how precise their arms are. they’re perfectly straight and not one of them lags behind.
i separated this dance break too bc i just want to emphasise how HARD this choreo is. the strength you have to have in your legs to pull this off with even half of the energy and precision that gfriend do is insane. there’s a reason that i think this choreo is one of the hardest.
summer rain

one of my all time favourite choreos of gfriend. what i love about this is that it really shows how varied gfriend’s dance style is. they’ve had power, they’ve had funky, now they have a melancholic elegance that is hard to pull off. also look at the start formation
this section is one of my ALL time favourite parts of a choreo EVER. the way each girl connects from one to the other. it’s so delicate and beautiful. that’s all i can say. it’s just wonderful and a reminder that a good choreo isn’t always fast and “powerful”
as if we haven’t had enough canons in this thread. this chorus choreo is so sharp and so delicate at the same time. i love the way that the girls embody the meaning and the energy of the song within their moves, not one of them is out of balance. beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFUL
time for the moon night

words cannot describe how unique and beautiful this intro is. the little details, the canon in the tiny movements with their hands and arms, as well as the layering of different heights. a very very nice formation indeed
this chorus!!!!!! their legs!!! their movements are insanely sharp and precise, not one of them looks out of place here. this choreo is also hard to perform because of the tiny details and the presentation of the details. it’s beautiful: powerful but still very elegant
sunny summer

i’d say this is their “easiest” choreo to learn, but the energy you have to put into it to make it look as sharp and as good as they do is a LOT. their synchronisation again is no joke as well as the angles that they move their body.
while it’s their “easiest” choreo, it’s also one of my favourites because it’s so FUN and unique. like their other songs the choreo works SO well with the vibe and message of the song and you can’t help but enjoy listening and watching it.
sunrise

finally. time for my all time favourite choreography in kpop to date. it’s BEAUTIFUL. i didn’t use the dance practice for this part because the formation that they’re in looks stunning from above. the sun imagery that runs throughout this choreo is so well-depicted
not just a canon, but also more sun imagery while both sowon AND yerin are at the front. i love the way it’s delicate at the start and as the tempo pics up the moves get bigger and much more powerful.
THIS FORMATION!! THIS LAYOUT!!! THIS IMAGERY!!! literally one of the most beautifully produced images i’ve seen in a kpop choreography. when i say that as a dancer they’re my favourite group to watch i really mean it. their choreos are so so creative and always work with the song
this includes another sun formation around eunha but i want to point out the sharpness of their moves and how effortless they make it look despite it being very very hard to balance as they seem to constantly only have one foot on the ground
another one of my favourite sections of a choreography. i LOVE this outro. it perfectly matches the rollercoaster that is the last minute of sunrise. the song moves from being delicate and soft to being heart wrenching and powerful and the sharpness of their moves shows that
fever

ok ok FIRSTTTT do you know how hard that ball bounce is right at the start?? to answer: very. also i absolutely adore how the formation AND the moves gradually get bigger and more spread out as the tempo for the song gets faster and it gets louder
quite a long clip because i really want to emphasise how much gfriend change formations in this song. like fingertip, this is another that gets them around the floor a LOT. they’re constantly moving forwards & back and through each other. and they do it so cleanly
labyrinth

yes i’m including this bc this choreo is genuinely very unique and full of clues towards gfriend’s theory. it’s also so well done that i still can’t believe they practiced for only 10 days and managed to be that precise and in sync
like in summer rain, this is another section of a choreo that i adore because it connects the girls and suits the lyrics and vibe of the song. it really shows that gfriend can do ANY genre.
THIS ONE BIT IS SO SATISFYING LIKE DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW SATISFYING IT IS TO SEE THEM MOVE SO CLEANLY SO IT FITS EXACTLY TO THE MUSIC i actually fantasise about this
i particularly like this sowon x yuju part of the choreo because not only does it suit the song, it’s also genuinely so satisfying to see because yuju pulling sowon matches with the rhythm of her voice. we love a creative and entertaining choreo!
crossroads

i can’t end this thread without talking about the PINNACLE of gfriend’s storytelling. through their precise movements they managed to tie a piece of almost every single previous title track in this choreo which suits the song as crossroads is the culmination
i also want to talk about how STRONG and in sync they are. the angle and speed that their arms move is insane. also, their control over their balance when they spin whiles rotating is so aplaudable i’d like to be able to spot that well
i think the bridge is quite possibly my favourite. previously the vibe of the song had been quite “melancholic” but this has pure strength while also perfectly portraying the message of the song. also, i want to talk about the canon, again. gfriend the queens of canons
