All day, Canadian universities have been announcing that they will be moving from face-to-face to remote learning for the rest of the semester.

Each institution seems to be approaching this in a slightly different way.

Let's take a look. {thread}
Before I start: Everything I write is this thread is what I understand from messaging on the various university websites. While I'm going to strive to be accurate, misinterpretations are possible. Please point them out!

Here we go.
Laurentian was the first to suspend classes on Wednesday, after a case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Sudbury. While they have moved classes online, they've left open the possibility that in-person classes will resume before the end of the semester. https://twitter.com/LaurentianU/status/1237761270587293697?s=20
Western cancelled classes Friday through Tuesday. When classes resume on Wednesday, all classes will be online for the rest of the term. They have been clear that exams will not take place in-person, and students can go home if they so choose. https://twitter.com/WesternU/status/1238256565704167426?s=20
Ontario Tech has cancelled classes as of Friday, and are asking faculty to "transition towards online forms of delivery." They say they are "assessing the potential for online delivery for the remainder of the term." More info to come by Monday. https://twitter.com/ontariotech_u/status/1238295145033928711?s=20
As of Monday, York will be suspending face-to-face instruction and moving online, presumably for the rest of the term. Decisions on exams haven't yet been made. Almost uniquely, York has also closed its gym facilities (as far as I can tell). https://twitter.com/yorkuniversity/status/1238464871038996481?s=20
McMaster suspended in-person classes at the end-of-day Friday, and will be moving everything online. They have also cancelled in-person exams. Carleton has cancelled face-to-face classes and will move to alternate modes of instruction for the rest of the term. They've cancelled class altogether on Mon/Tues to give instructors time to prepare. They're still working on exam info. https://twitter.com/CU_President/status/1238470092142370816?s=20
U of T has cancelled "all in-person undergraduate and research-stream Masters/Doctoral courses" on all 3 campuses, effective Monday. Decisions are still being made about professional programs. Instruction will move online. There was no mention of exams. https://twitter.com/UofT/status/1238480980962353152?s=20
Effective March 13, Ryerson is "shifting all in-person classes to virtual and other alt. forms of delivery." Exams will be conducted by "alternate methods." Instructors have the week of March 16 to figure things out, with a deadline of March 23. https://twitter.com/RyersonU/status/1238484965123403777?s=20
Starting Monday, Queen's has suspended classes for undergraduate students for one week. It's pretty unclear what their plans are after that week, although they do reference "alternate delivery." Graduate student classes are NOT suspended. https://twitter.com/queensu/status/1238490646542942208?s=20
Brock has suspended face-to-face classes as of 5 p.m Friday. Classes will resume virtually on Monday, March 23. Exams will also move to an alternate format. They are encouraging students in residence to go home if they are able. https://twitter.com/BrockUniversity/status/1238504006483357696
UWaterloo is suspending all on-campus courses from March 14-23. After the suspension, all in-person academic activity, including in-person exams, will be cancelled. Course activity will resume in alternate formats. https://twitter.com/UWaterloo/status/1238516976575819777?s=20
I'm not even finished Ontario yet, but I think it's bedtime. We'll resume tomorrow!
