hello everyone, i have something to say again
we are seeing a lot of things that leftists have been asking for suddenly be accomplished in the past week or so because people are frightened of disease
we are seeing evictions cancelled, we are seeing people not be imprisoned for minor offenses, things like this
i just want to say: we could be doing this, and far beyond this, anytime
america has the resources to house everyone, to feed everyone, to give everyone healthcare. we let rich people hoard houses that sit empty, we gatekeep healthcare, but we do not need to
i talk about america here because it is where i live but i believe much of the world could take care of its people better if rich people did not hoard their wealth and politicians did not constantly wage wars that hurt the most vulnerable first
we are seeing the edges of what can be accomplished by abolishing systems that are cruel, oppressive and unnecessary. we can demand that those systems stay shut down after this crisis. we can shut more of them down
we can demand sick leave for everyone, housing for everyone, food for everyone, healthcare for everyone, a stop to racist policing, an end to wars
we can demand an end to sanctions that are killing sick iranians and that are keeping us from learning about and using cuban covid treatments
these can be our goals! we can decide not to settle for what is offered to us by milquetoast corporate-owned politicians! we can flood culture with our demands, we can move the overton window, we can strike and riot! we can act beyond electoral politics!
thank you for everyone who is postponing events and suspending religious services and doing what you can to reduce the spread of this virus, and solidarity to the workers who are not able to take time off in this crisis because of the cruel and corrupt system that is capitalism.
to quote Ursula Le Guin: "We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings."
we can escape this and create something better, we can do this all the time. we can see now many oppressive systems are actually unnecessary!
i am seeing so many disabled people who cannot make it to physical locations of work and school express their frustration that now we can do classes via zoom and work from home but accomodations would not be made for them. let's do better!
let's come out of this knowing that the systems that oppress us were built by humans and can be taken away, and if power will not cede those systems we will break them, with strikes and riots if necessary.
love to all of you 🤎🖤❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
