We know that the stress of #Covid19 doesn’t help in an already-stressed college admissions landscape.
As we are all still figuring out the right questions, we definitely don’t have all the answers. But here are some thoughts and resources we think may help THREAD
While it’s possible that AP tests will be rescheduled, there’s no information about that right now.
College admissions offices are being as flexible/cautious as they can be and are in the same new territory as the rest of us. We expect waitlists to be larger & last longer as colleges hold cards closer to the vest and give themselves more of a safety net as events develop
Some are extending their enrollment deposit deadlines from May 1st to June 1st and we expect this trend to continue https://twitter.com/JonBoeckenstedt/status/1238179002877001728?s=20
Many have implemented travel bans, making it hard for admissions counselors to do recruitment in the spring which is a key part of their work. 8 national @NACAC college fairs have been canceled. You can monitor these cancelations at http://nacacfairs.org
As you likely know, college campuses are canceling classes, and also tours (follow along here http://shorturl.at/fEVZ3 ) for interested families. There are however tons of online resources like @You_Visit, YouUniversityTV, @Unigo, and @MyBigFuture
If you’re worrying about “demonstrating interest,” don’t. Learn more about DI here http://go.collegewise.com/demonstrated-interest
Again, everyone is in the same boat, including colleges. Focus on researching why you are a good fit with a school so you can nail that response in writing when you apply
Students: If you’re out of school, above all stay safe and healthy, but also, stay busy and engaged in learning! As a gym closure doesn’t keep you from doing pushups or going for a run, a school closure shouldn’t keep you from engaging your brain.
We hope this blows over soon, but it likely won't. Lots of uncertainty, and we'll stay as current as possible as it pertains to our work. Hug and care for those you love, stay safe, and as Mr. Rogers reminds us, “look for the helpers.”
