About 14 months ago, my mom died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 66. My family is lucky to be a part of multiple intersecting communities that came together to get us through it. Dozens of individuals disrupted their lives to help us get on with ours.
As news starts to roll in about people affected by and dying from COVID-19, it's not just our health system that is about to be overwhelmed -- the community support systems that came together for my grieving family can't possibly respond that same way at scale.
I somehow had this thought in a dream about three hours ago. I woke up in a cold sweat and haven't been able to get back to sleep. Grief is paralyzing. Even thinking about the not-yet-felt grief of unknown mourners breaks me. I hope we manage to be there for each other.
This was something I hadn't even considered yet. https://twitter.com/sarambsimon/status/1240325667323084803
Thinking about this above thread today on my mom's birthday. While reading this thread about what is happening with the dead in NY right now
