Let me address former EFF MP Godrich Gardee & DA MP Belinda Bozzoli on salaries of MPs. Bozzoli tweeted her salary advice & seemed to suggest that R48k nett salary is too little. Meanwhile their parliament approved R3.5k salary for millions of SA workers.
MPs are sent to Parliament to serve, not to earn. If R48k take-home is too little, Honourable members are free to have private businesses & declare such interests to parliament. Being an MP is not a profession that people go to university for.
Once you have EFF MPs complaining that their R48k salaries are too little, this is how the revolution will be sold to the highest bidder. No wonder others went knocking on Cyril's door to bury their loved ones.
The same petrol attendants, domestic workers & security guards survive on R3.5k salary approved by the same people who complain that R48k is too little. Child-headed households survive on R800 average of #SASSA grants & are soldiering on.
How many R3.5k are there in R48k? By our SA🇿🇦 standards, R48k nett salary plus other perks such as free flights is too much. One can buy R1.5m house plus a car & still be able to eat.
My people from Tshilidzini can build 2 double-story houses in 4yrs with that monthly salary. We send MPs to Parliament to serve us, not to pay them exorbitant salaries. Serving the people selflessly must be a priority.
We have young graduates who receive R4k stipend as interns at government departments. Some without post-matric qualification say R1m annual salary is too little. Why do people agree to have their names included into party lists if they think R48k nett salary is too little?
You don't praise Cuban lifestyle of selfless service to the public & complain that R48k nett salary & related perks is too little!! How do you even begin to balance this scale of thinking??
If you complain that Parliamentary medical aid is too expensive, bear in mind that millions of taxpayers whose money funds that medical aid scheme queue at dysfunctional clinics & hospitals from as early as 03hOoam
This is what Thabo Mbeki described as political careerism in 1999. Then comrades said he never suffered mosquito bites in Uganda because he was living comfortably in London.
We have entrepreneurs who wake up at 04H00 to set up stalls at street corners to make a living. They don't make R48k profit in 6months but, take every day as it comes. With a smile if I may add.
