#Taxday is only a few weeks away, so we'll be addressing some of the most common questions we get about the earnings tax in this tweet thread below. #EtaxFacts
Q: Who has to file and/or pay the earnings tax? A: All city of St. Louis residents are required to pay the earnings tax regardless of where they work, and non-city residents who work within city limits #EtaxFacts #taxday
Q: I moved during the tax year. Do I need to file an earnings tax return? A: Yes. The portion of income earned during the time spent in the city is subject to the earnings tax. Use the appropriate formula on your tax return to determine your obligation. #EtaxFacts #taxDay
Q: I attend college outside of the city of St. Louis but use a local address for mailing purposes. Do I need to file an earnings tax return? A: Yes. Anyone with a permanent address in the City of St. Louis will be required to file on 100% of their earnings. #EtaxFacts #taxDay
Q: Is the earnings tax deadline extended? A: Yes, the earnings tax filing date has been extended to July 15, 2020. Taxpayers don't need to file any extra forms to qualify for the automatic extension. The extension only applies to annual returns, not withholding or payroll taxes.
Q: What documents do I need to provide when I file? A: Please refer to the instructions that accompany each tax return for any necessary and supporting documentation. #EtaxFacts #taxDay https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/collector/earnings-tax-forms-info.cfm
Q: Where do I send my Tax information? A: Fax: (314) 622-4847 Email: [email protected] Mail to: City Hall Room 410, 1200 Market St., St. Louis, MO 63103 #EtaxFacts #taxDay
Q: Does the city of St. Louis have its own extension form? A: The city allows for extensions for businesses and individuals that file an E-234 return. To request an extension please complete form E-8 (linked below) and return it to our office. https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/collector/documents/upload/2012-Form-E-8-Fillable.pdf
If you are filing an E-234 and are requesting an extension from our office, you must file the extension by July 15, 2020 and include a payment of 90% of any estimated tax due. The extension only gives you more time to file, not to pay. #EtaxFacts https://stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/collector/documents/upload/2012-Form-E-8-Fillable.pdf
There are no extensions for individual tax returns so be sure to file your earnings tax E-1 form by tomorrow to avoid additional fees on your account. #EtaxFacts
