Just tweeted about how the spirit of immorality & witch craft permeated the entertainment industry and then a thought dropped in my mind - “what if it has belonged to them from the beginning, what if entertainment has never been God’s intention for us?” ...thread❤️✨
The Lord led me to look into what entertainment is (going to do a more in depth study later) and I ran a quick google search:
The first thing that came to mind as I scanned these synonyms was the culture of the idol worshipping nations who didn’t know God. The Persians, Babylonians etc. They placed a high value on being amused through alcohol, female dancers and revelries of every kind.
But perhaps the most striking synonym was the word ‘distract’ - Did a lot of these kings use witch craft and belly dancers to stimulate their flesh and distract themselves from their torment and boredom?
I then started to think about films and movies, music, theatre and the arts and what God’s intention is for us in engaging with these things. And I felt the Lord say that He uses these things to challenge us, teach us and change us.
What I am suggesting is that there is a difference between a film that solely caters to your carnality and emotions, and one that provides insight, wisdom and challenges you to be more of the person God desires for you to be. And time spent with the latter is a worthy investment.
I never said God doesn’t want you to laugh or find things funny - even God has a sense of humour & a lot of the films I watch do make me laugh. I’m simply distinguishing between entertainment that caters to the flesh and God given enjoyment that increases our capacity to know Him
