That’s the end of the highlights I’ll tweet this time.
I should add that the Essential polling was done “live from the Wednesday night of each week and closed on the following Sunday”, so I reckon this will change a LOT in the next two weeks. Enjoy.
New Essential polling is out with lots of coronavirus questions. I think last week’s was a special run for @GuardianAus. https://essentialvision.com.au/category/essentialreport I’ll tweet some highlights in a few minutes. Meanwhile here’s my thread of the key figures from a week ago. https://twitter.com/stilgherrian/status/1237612986316910592
“Q. To what extent are you concerned about the threat of the Coronavirus in Australia?” The majority of Australia’s are now “very concerned” cf 39% last week. https://essentialvision.com.au/coronavirus-concerns-3
“Q. How likely do you think it is, that you will develop Covid-19?” Much the same. https://essentialvision.com.au/likelihood-of-developing-coronavirus-2
“There has been an over-reaction to the threat of Covid-19” down from 33% to 18%, and remember the polling was done Wed–Sun. https://essentialvision.com.au/reaction-to-covid-19-2
“Q. How confident are you that the following statements about Covid-19 are true?” https://essentialvision.com.au/truth-in-statements-about-covid-19-spread

Key for me: 73% think “busloads of outsiders” myth is true; 31% think it’s no more dangerous than a typical winter flu.
“Q. Overall, how would you rate the Government’s response to the Covid-19 outbreak?” Much the same as a week ago. https://essentialvision.com.au/government-response-to-covid-19-2
“Q. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statements about the information you’ve received about the Covid-19 outbreak?” Trust in the media info is up a bit. https://essentialvision.com.au/information-about-covid-19-2
“Q. Have you changed your behaviour in any of the following ways since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak?” https://essentialvision.com.au/changing-behaviour-due-to-covid-19-2

Click through for age and gender breakdowns on these last two, and probably for others.
“Q. To what extent do you support or oppose the following the following measures which have been implemented or suggested, to reduce the spread and transmission of Covid-19?” Solid support for all of those listed. https://essentialvision.com.au/support-for-restrictions-to-reduce-the-spread-of-covid-19
New Covid-19 restrictions (from last week). Only 10% thought they went too far. https://essentialvision.com.au/new-covid-19-restrictions

It will be VERY interesting to see next week’s polling on this week’s restrictions.
More (54%) support giving government support to non-permanent residents than not (22%). https://essentialvision.com.au/support-for-non-permanent-residents-accessing-australian-government-support
On those last two, my call is that people’s concerns haven’t changed much, and they still generally think the government isn’t doing enough re climate change (but down to 55% from a Nov 2019 peak of 60%).
Yes. The margin of error in the Essential poll is in the order of ±3 percentage points. https://essentialvision.com.au/about-this-poll  https://twitter.com/PeteLawler/status/1244786000984862720
The Essential polling is out, and once more there’s plenty of coronavirus stuff. I’ll tweet that rather than the preferred-PM horserace shit. And attached is last week’s polling for you to compare. https://twitter.com/stilgherrian/status/1244781115807682560
Actually, I will tweet this first one. “Q. Do you approve or disapprove of the job Scott Morrison is doing as Prime Minister?” It’s soared to 59% net approve. https://essentialvision.com.au/performance-of-scott-morrison-3
“Q. To what extent are you concerned about the threat of the Coronavirus in Australia?” Basically the same within margin of error. https://essentialvision.com.au/coronavirus-concerns-4
“Q. How likely do you think it is, that you will develop Covid-19?” Basically the same. https://essentialvision.com.au/likelihood-of-developing-coronavirus-3
Reaction to Covid-19: The sense that the response is about right is rising. (Remember, polling is done Wed–Sun, so this does not include anything done yesterday.) https://essentialvision.com.au/reaction-to-covid-19-3
“Q. Which of the following is closer to your expectations of what will happen to the economy following the Covid-19 situation?” Not much change here. 51% say economy will be impacted 6–12 months or longer. https://essentialvision.com.au/economic-expectations
“Q. Overall, how would you rate the Government’s response to the Covid-19 outbreak?” Significant shift upwards in “good” responses. https://essentialvision.com.au/government-response-to-covid-19-3
Information about Covid-19: People are feeling more informed, and trust in both government and media info is up. https://essentialvision.com.au/information-about-covid-19-3 Click through for gender and age breakdowns.
“Q. Have you changed your behaviour in any of the following ways since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak?” https://essentialvision.com.au/changing-behaviour-due-to-covid-19-3 You can analyse this one for yourselves. Click through for gender and age breakdowns.
