Bible Study Discussion Thread: after the Ascension of the Messiah into Heaven, the Holy Scriptures say the Disciples preached in public, in the Temple at Jerusalem, and in Synagogues. Besides that though, it states that the Church gathered, taught, and learned in houses
The English word 'church' equates to the Koine Greek biblical word Ekklesia. The word, as used in the Holy Scriptures, means a group of people of Faith. The historical Etymology definition shows it began to mean a building around 300 AD, and by 1828 AD primarily meant a building
In comparison to the word Church, Ekklesia, there is a Synagogue, Sunagoge in Greek, and Temple, Hieron in Greek. Note the Etymology of the word Synagogue implies Public worship and a building, and Temple implies a building, used as a word for Synagogue by 1590s AD.
So biblically we see thus far that a Church is a body of people of faith, not a building, and a Synagogue is a Public gathering of people as well as a building, and a Temple is a building. The Early Church visited and publicly preached both at Synagogues and the Temple.
A study of Acts shows the Early Church preached Publicly at Synagogues to proclaim the Good News, but we also see in Acts and the Epistles that the Church gathered together in Private gatherings to study and teach each other in Houses, biblical Greek word Oikos, not Synagogues
Some examples of the Early Church disciples and members having House Church, a time to study and discuss the Holy Scriptures and the Teachings of the Messiah during a group meal with family and friends, are Acts 2:46, 5:42, 8:3, and even 10:22 where Peter goes to a gentile home
Additional examples of the Early Church disciples and members having House Church, a time to study and discuss the Holy Scriptures and the Teachings of the Messiah during a group meal with family and friends, are Acts 12:12, 16:32, 16:40, and 18:7
One more example of the Early Church disciples and members having House Church, a time to study and discuss the Holy Scriptures and the Teachings of the Messiah during a group meal with family and friends, is in Acts 20:20, were this time it is a more preaching house to house
In the Epistles it names specific disciples that host House Church in their homes for fellow members to study, learn, and have fellowship in the Word, such as Romans 16:5, 1 Corinthians 16:19, Colossians 4:15, and Philemon 2. They are not at Public Synagogues, but at home
We know that our Father the Almighty is always with us, and that in Matthew 18:20 it says where 2 or more are Gathered, Sunago in Greek, the Messiah is there, that implies those gathered are sharing fellowship as they learn and study anyplace, be it a public building or private
The Holy Scriptures show that the Church body of disciples held fellowship, study, and discussion of the Holy Scripture with family and friends in houses, learning from each other, they had what has come to be called House Church and Home Bible Study
Take time for reflection and Pray to our Father in Heaven for guidance, think about preparing yourself and your household for Spiritual Food and Drink as you prepare your house for physical food and drink. Count on the Word, through home study, and imitate Early Church disciples
