For less than 1/2 the cost of college, you could buy the top 5 textbooks on any subject, learn everything in them, then hire 3 top experts in that field to coach you & fill in your knowledge gaps. Mastery in <9 months. But nobody will do this, because its not easy or normal.
If you're a serious autodidact this is the best route to follow.

1. Develop your understanding to an intermediate/advanced level in the shortest period of time possible.

2. Then hire the best people you can access to help you master.

Cut your learning timeline by 70% easily.
Or you can spend 2x as much money, and 3-4x as much time, doing your 4 year college degree...

...where you'll be reading the exact same texbooks.

And have your learning rate restricted to the lowest common denominator.

And have limited access to only one expert/professor. 🤔
College Degrees experience diminishing returns year on year:
- The cost associated with a degree increases
- The number of people with a degree increases
Therefore, value decreases (less scarce = less valuable) as cost increases.

If you start a college degree this year, you're paying more for a less valuable commodity than people before you.

This makes absolutely no sense as a financial or time investment.

Additionally you don't need a degree to get a job. You need marketable skills & a little charisma.
You have the internet, you can learn anything direct from source.

Research > Learn > Implement.

Those with the ability to focus, learn and adapt will beat those who rely on archaic institutional models of learning throughout the 2020s and 2030s.
FYI, this is basically how I learned marketing.

I got into one of the top schools in the UK despite having no grades by selling myself to the administration.

But I refused my place, because I stand by this view & I'd rather self educate.
