Volume metrics for defenders simply mean a player needs to defend more. What is more important to look at is how often they are making errors and failing.

Defensive players losing possession of the ball in the buildup & consolidation phases correlates to giving up shots

on goal.

Adding in 'chances created' just seems like throwing in a metric for the sake of it because your boy was ahead. United are the side with the most long range shots in the league. Liverpool one of the fewest. So Utd will have a high amount of poor value

chances created. Looking at Maguire's, 11 of his chances created show as such chances, with an average xG per shot of 0.02 (or a 2% chance of a goal per shot).

Both players have 2 big chances created and 1 assist, which is a better way to look at it.
Interesting you only include one half of the goal involvement equation. Wonder why?

I wanted to try and demonstrate this a bit better. Hopefully this helps to do so. They are density plots for where a team is taking shots from.
1 = average of all teams
2 = Liverpool
3 = Man Utd

Btw, we saw the same shit last season when ESPN were comparing Sol Bamba to van Dijk.

I don't understand how people fail to wrap their head around this. Teams who need to defend more often will have higher defensive numbers.
Liverpool have conceded 21 goals this season, 4 less than Sheffield United, 9 less than United, 10 less than City.

Yet they rank:-
20/20 in interceptions per 90
20/20 in fouls per 90
19/20 in blocks per 90
18/20 in clearances per 90
17/20 in tackles per 90
