Catholic groups have helpfully defined what they mean when they rail against Gender Ideology. They couch it in "love the sinner hate the sin" shit around how they're not against lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people, but the content reveals itself. http://archive.is/YHPvJ
1. The beginnings of scientific recognition that sexuality in nature could vary from heterosexuality (via Kinsey, who was problematic in a lot of ways but so are most of his contemporaries - they cherry pick the issues with Kinsey to discredit the diversity of sexuality)
2. Growing research into Gender as a separate topic from Sex, undermining many of the popular sex stereotypes of the time and leading to a recognition of the existence of trans people.
3. Pro choice feminists disestablishing compulsory motherhood for women through reproductive technologies.
4. Sex education letting young people know they don't need to be heterosexual or cis when they grow up.
5. Gay marriage (under Obama, clearly this is an American organisation) ruining things for the straights.
6. The UN recognising that same sex parents are able to form legitimate families that have the same rights under the convention on the rights of the child as any other.
7. The proliferation of planned parenthood clinics and similar resources to enable people to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions.

There they quote from sources where the nationalist angle is emphasised - "why don't feminists go to Muslim countries and clean them up instead of targeting feminism here", and racist tropes about the rape of white women.
Here the Catholic Women's Forum describe Gender Ideology refers to the belief that "you as a human being are free to create yourself as you wish" - which gets to some of the underlying truth - this is a fight over autonomy versus natural immutability. https://vimeo.com/194975957
The Catholics, like the TERFs posit this as being at war with reality of course, but the reality is that as free beings with free will in a universe where if God does exist he's hiding really effectively, we have choices and bodies we can change and have every right to do so.

The thing I find especially maddening about this is that despite the very clear, global, multicultural and multilingual campaign that exists to reverse feminist gains of the last 30-40 years, the left/progressive media have done almost nothing to cover it.
The left doesn't give a fuck about trans people, queer people or women. The left makes a show of giving a shit about anti-fascism but has made virtually zero effort to understand and counter one of the biggest international fascist mass movements going right now.
They talk about Trump and Bolsonaro and Duterte and occasionally superficially about hate crimes or the proud boys but when it comes to understanding the ideology and how it is propagating in our own society and communities and how we fight that, the left is full of trade..
..union leaders and Morning Stars and George fucking Galloway's who've never seen a conservative reactionary panic they didn't like.
Even the pro trans left has fixated itself on superficialities about TERFs and their connections while failing to do enough to actually step up and investigate the Far right parties, street movement groups and so on winding up people up towards vigilante street violence.
They point to Poland and say "well that's not going to happen here" while LGBT hate crime is up 180% in three years and rising.
A trans woman was gang raped by 7 men in a fucking Amsterdam taxi a couple of weeks ago and couldn't get support from the authorities because she's a migrant and the reactionary feminist movement are busy presenting us as the biggest threat to Women since rape was invented.
We need to radically expand our efforts towards solidarity around reproductive and sexual autonomy, resistance to violent border enforcement schemes, making our anti fascism seriously antiracist, defending queer and trans liberty and directly confronting attempts at demonisation
Our anti fascism needs more feminism and our feminism needs more antifa. We need more recognition that all of these struggles, against nationalism, racism, misogyny, transphobia, ablism are all being recruited by the Gender Ideology backlash.
