Creator advice: practice taking compliments graciously. Don& #39;t self-deprecate - you have 50:50 chance on it coming across as an insult to the person& #39;s taste.

Try and memorise a phrase to say if someone says something nice.

(Mine is "Thank you. You& #39;re very kind.")
Specific note for the brits: taking compliments is the most unbritish thing, and doubly so if you& #39;re at all anxious, so really is actively worth being prepared for. I say my line and try and move the conversation on.
It gets increasingly important if you come into contact with Americans, who culturally don& #39;t do this nearly as much.
I had my "I need to be better at this moment" around 2009 when I first met a major american creator who said "I& #39;m loving your work" and I said "Well, someone has to" and saw instantly the offence.

(Understandably.)

Zoe is 100% right here - the phrase is meant as a stepping stone to a genuine human interaction rather than a dead end. https://twitter.com/girlonetrack/status/1235514487589007360">https://twitter.com/girlonetr...
