If you’re a student, apply for Co-op and FSWEP jobs. This will help you get a security clearance, which is like gold. You can get a foot in the door and start networking.

If you’re no longer a student, you can check http://jobs.gc.ca to see what departments are hiring external candidates. Once a year in October, the Post-Secondary Recruitment is run, and sometimes GAC has jobs posted.

I often struggle with figuring out how to have a positive impact on my workplace, knowing that a few small people at the bottom can’t easily move a bureaucratic machine.
