Taehyung’s Vocals in 「00:00」Mini Analysis

One thing to note of this song is the lovely mix of lo-fi and trap influences w/ some of VL’s chorale-like singing. It some nice blends of techniques from vocal line’s unique colors. Tae's parts in 00:00 shows more of his musicianship.
The intro gives us the rap-singing from JK & JM before we settle on to Tae’s first verse in the song. Tae's first verse (which is just before the refrain) is him purely singing and rapidly transferring between his registers and placements of resonance for style. +
It's actually kind of tricky to pull it off unless you have a good sense of breathe support and transition to your head voice (this is really thanks to Tae's really developed mixed voice).
A bit about mixed voice: some people naturally get to coordinate their muscles that are responsible for chest voice&head voice, while others don't. It has to be developed. Maximizing the mixed voice is something Tae nailed down and uses it to his advantage throughout his career.
Back with the verse, a subtle show of good vocal technique: Tae keeps changing resonators and registers for his voice. From his mixed voice, he rapidly ascends to his head voice to accent the last vowels per line. It helps a lot that Tae's mixed voice is already head-dominant +
it easier for him to transition to head voice. To the untrained ear this doesn’t seem obvious that he is transitioning registers, and that’s impressive — because it means he does it very smoothly.
There’s also that lovely trill [vocal trill is when the singer rapidly switches back& forth between two adjacent notes(semitone or a tone apart from each other)] from him here, a quite advanced technique that requires vocal flexibility:
He then ends his verse in style by settling to his chest voice. From "mundeuk shigyel bwa" you can hear him moving to the lower notes of "got yeoldushi":
More about Tae's head voice: You can also hear Tae harmonizing with Jin's vocals during the refrain. He's mostly using his head voice here with a more airy and soft overtone here by breathiness:
Tae is very flexible & has solid control w/his resonance. It enables him to be versatile w/ overtones. You can hear him sing parts of the chorus throughout the song w/fuller volume, matching the chorus’ upbeat melody. Still in head voice, he uses his mouth as his resonator here.
Now Tae sing-raps in the second verse, still in head voice. Worth mentioning too is when his rap takes him to the line "is it my fault" where the whole flow of the Tae's rap breaks its initial rhythm in favor of being more dynamic.
In short, it’s really cool how he can create varying temperaments with his voice. He can do this in mixed and chest too. It’s impressive how he’s got his head voice very flexible!
Let’s get back to that rap. It’s just so good it needs to be left alone on its own 😭💜
About the bridge: I love how Tae’s part fits in bet. JM’s &JK’s lines. Tae’s soft mixed voice contrasts and mellows JM’s firm delivery&volume. Then that note jump of Tae when he sings “for me” builds up the bridge’s ending w/ JK’s brighter vocals and Jin&JM wrapping it up.
As I mentioned in the beginning, Tae’s presence as a vocalist in 00:00 was pretty nice. It’s delightful that we get to hear him utilize his range and versatility by going in different styles of singing and techniques, and he’s done some bunch here!
Lastly, I wonder if we will hear vocal line members live as they sing the harmonies from the bridge and the persistent "ooooh"s in the background through the entire song. It was a nice touch to the song and I hope we can hear more of Tae in these parts. 💜
