Thread: Taking a deeper dive into Dartmouth's Zach Sammartino (G/C). I'm not sure where he'll go in the draft or if he will get drafted but I believe this kid is flying under the radar. There is a lot to like:
The first thing that stands out immediately about him is the attitude he plays with. He's a prick out there. This wouldn't show up in a highlight real but it's the little things like this that send a message to the DL you playing that it's going to be a long game.
Clinic rep here on the double team on this QB Counter play. Gets drive with his right shoulder keeping his left side free to pick up the LB should he shoot the A gap. Sees the LB cross face and then takes over the block on the DT as 77 picks up the LB.
Great effort here on this play. He leaves a hand on the nose for the C and has his eyes on the DE to help the OT. Chases the DE and drives him out of the way to open a lane for the QB scramble. Would probably be looking at a sack if he didn't chase the DE.
Nice awareness on this pass play to pick up the stunt. He and the RT do a nice job of staying square to the LOS to better pass off their guys. I'd like to see him strike the spiking DT to help the RT a little more. If the RT didn't see it coming he would've been ear-holed.
This play was almost a bad play for him. Over-sets on the slanting DT but recovers nicely by cutting off the inside rush with good feet.
Love this play. QB counter again. He and the RT are tasked to gap down, doubling the DT to the backside LB. Zach recognizes his assignment slants away, passes him off while keeping his eyes on his gap, and then delivers a nice block on the LB. Great awareness.
Fit, drive, and finish.
Rinse and repeat.
The kid is a powerful blocker. Plays low and is great at getting leverage as a run blocker.
You sense a pattern yet? Great drive, moves him a solid 5+ yards, and then finishes it.
Fantastic job here on the pull on the sweep play. Takes on the block square, strikes, and drives him out.
Just a relentless effort guy. Drives the LB out of bounds and out of the camera angle. Block through the whistle. I'll take an effort like this every day.
Small school guy but he's got great tape. I'll be really curious to see where he ends up. If he goes undrafted the Redskins would be wise to take a flyer on him as an undrafted FA. Get him into camp and I think he'll surprise.
