Curating a list of places you can go within India if you are cancelling/avoiding international travel this summer/monsoon due to corona virus. Follow this thread.
As hot as India may seem in summers. April/May (more may actually) is perfect to get to Himachal and uttarakhand. It will be cold and dry.
Dharamshala/mcleodganj/bir are perfect for solo travelers and family travelers, and is connected by road and airport very well.
If you are more adventurous and have atleast 10-14 days, rent a car, join a trip to Spiti valley in May/June. Rains and snow may postpone your plans.
This makes more sense if you are a group of 4-6 people so taxis are more economic.
And dont litter plz. Plz be respectful.
For those looking for shorter trips up north. I think a chill dalhousie scene is best. Its connected by flights and trains that go to pathankot.
If you are in the south, monsoon onwards I have loved driving from Bangalore to Mangalore with stopovers in Bylakuppe and Coorg.
I would highly recommend roadtrips across kerala come July/August. Pallakad - Kochi - Kumarakom - Allapey. Nehru boat race in Kumarakom + houseboat + toddy. It will be hot but so worth it.
Also really enjoyed Kovalam (leela) and Varkala in August. It will be rainy + breezy!!
Short treks for those who have a week.
Go to Haridwar - Rishikesh and then do a trek to Deoriatal Chandrashila.
Read up here but google for a trek operator basis your comfort: https://indiahikes.com/deoriatal-chandrashila-trek/#detailed-itinerary
If you are VERY backpacker kind then May/June are also excellent to make a trip to Manali - Kasol - Rasol - Tosh Pulga. Kheerganga (2 days) and Waichin valley (1 day) treks are a lovely add on.
I would say avoid Ladakh. Its too crowded and nature is taking a toll here.
A fantastic trek option here is Markha Valley if you have a week. Treks are a great way of seeing new and believing the new. :)
Another very good roadtrip is Srinagar - Sonemarg - Drass - Kargil - Leh and back. Stay at every place for 2 nights!
Monsoon time is also fab to visit one of those beaut resorts in Gokarna.
Another late monsoon trip worth it is Hampi. Both are accessible from Bangalore.
Darjeeling and Kalimpong. I havent been there but if I had a week I would definitely go this way.
Feel free to add anything to this list. Feel free to talk to one another. As a traveler I am so sad I aint gonna be traveling far but i am going to make the best of my time in himachal again exploring something new. xoxo
