My tribute to @PeteButtigieg.

"Many people saw him as arrogant, shallow, bigoted, or bought. He was none of those things. He made the Democratic Party more inclusive, and he showed how progressivism could be more effective." http://bit.ly/3amOuaE
"The more I watched him, the more he surprised me. It wasn’t just that he knew the details and complications of one issue after another. It was how he dealt with what he *didn’t* know. He was sensible, open-minded, and wise." http://bit.ly/3amOuaE
In debates, Buttigieg came across as scripted and calculating. But that’s not how he talks in extended interviews. What drew me toward him was how he responded when pushed beyond the soundbites. He loved going off-road. He welcomed the give and take. http://bit.ly/3amOuaE
Sanders and Warren called Buttigieg a tool of billionaires. That argument makes you think you’re seeing beneath the surface, but it’s shallow. It’s good to know who’s donating to whom. But that's no substitute for reading what the candidates are proposing. http://bit.ly/3amOuaE
"Medicare for all who want it" allows for the possibility that a program will turn out to be a disappointment. It also respects freedom of choice. As a gay man from Indiana, Buttigieg knows you have to connect with people who don’t see things your way. http://bit.ly/3amOuaE
"Critics on the left saw Buttigieg as a sellout who tugged the Democratic Party to the right. In reality, he did the opposite. By sending signals of inclusion to moderates, he made us comfortable with a candidate whose ideas were often well to our left." http://bit.ly/3amOuaE
"It’s true that Buttigieg failed to clean out racial bias in South Bend’s police department. That problem has long afflicted cities where other 2020 candidates served as mayors or DAs, including New York, San Francisco, Newark, Minneapolis and Burlington." http://bit.ly/3amOuaE
"Buttigieg was sometimes called 'Mayo Pete,' just another white guy. A presidential candidate who talked about his husband at campaign events was shrugged off as a bourgeois centrist. He did what radicalism couldn’t: He made gay marriage unremarkable." http://bit.ly/3amOuaE
