Gurugram has high no of people travelling to and fro , from here. Recently, delivered a talk about security implication of #COVID19 for professionals travelling all over. Emphasised on avoiding countries hit the most. In fact all non essential travel should be suspended. 1/n
The problems
1. It's a novel or new virus.
2. No immunity, individual or herd.
3. No defined treatment available.
4. Its contagious, 1 index case may infect 2.2 to 2.6 people.
5. Its spread by droplet , be careful of coughing and sneezing.
6. Most > 80 % cases are mild.
Its severe in patients with comorbidities like some 1 havng Airway disease, heart disease, diabetes or any other chr disease.
People of age > 70 year are more vulnerable.
CFR or case fatality rate 2.3% or will eventually be less than this.
Considering many are asymptomatic
Basic precautions like those observed during a bout of flu will help. Hydration , rest and seeking help when flu gets worse , apply here too.
As per latest data incubation Is 2 weeks and 5 day to 24 days being outliers.
49 % will have fever, 40 % cough and rest will have flu
Fever is high grade 100 to 103 , unrelenting with chills and mostly associated with cough. Total duration of sickness is 2 weeks ,unlike flu which is for 8 days approximately. If you are travelling in from any endemic country or have been in contact with someone who has travelled
, please be aware of these symptoms.
Don't go to hospital or clinic without giving prior information of your travel. Do this before you take appointment, let healthcare professional be aware of your travel history or you being in contact with any traveler.
If symptoms are mild flu , call your doctor and take a telly consult. Self regulations and being responsible for society will help.
There should be no scaremongering and trust your doctor for best information.
As of now no definitive treatments are available.
In china they are trying
Remdsmivir
Chloroquine
Combination of anti HIV drugs.
Trials are going on. We have to wait for any conclusive data.
Let's have lot of data and analyze it, before we say even a single word.
Hand wash, flu etiquette, hand wash , hand wash and hand wa.
Vaccine development has been fast tracked.
Moderna is one such company which has already submitted its vaccine for testing in humans. Will take at least 1 year or may be less. All major multinationals are working on it.
But it's time consuming.Vaccine safety and all is important
Now coming to preparedness
1. Most importantly public information and spreading awareness.
2. Avoiding scaremongering and panic situations.
3. Travel history and history of contact.
4. When you are visiting your doctor or health care provider, give history of travel , always.
5. Trust your government, kerala has done an excellent work. Recent evacuation of students from Wuhan was managed very efficiently.
6. My request to govt @MEAIndia , @MoHFW_INDIA @PMOIndia . Suspend all medical tourism Visa of people travelling from middle east, iraq, afganistan.
7. Let the govt close all ports of in travel from endemic countries.
8. Develop more facilities for handling new cases. Invest in training and preparedness.
9. Designate more and more labs for testing #COVID19 , PCR and antibody based test.
10. Trust your in country labs.
Let these labs do their own research for developing techniques and methodologies for testing #COVID19.
11. Let's an government official address a press conference daily about the updates. Let it be public.
12. Let's have readiness with more and more ventilators and ECMO machine.
13. Many govt hospitals have ventilators lying unused , let the govt do an urgent audit and come up with plan to use these in case of requirement.
14. Center and state coordination is key to have a national policy about handling this epidemic.
15. Protective gear and masks.
We need to create resources and utilize these resources appropriately.
That's all for today.
