Thread with a review of every game I played in 2020.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions:
This game is wasted potential dragged out for way too long. Everything in the game just wants to drag on. The puzzles are shit. The dungeons are shit. But the story, aesthetics, and battle system save the game. The story is ridiculous, but it serves...(1/2)
...the rest of the game well. The characters are god awful but whatever. The battle system is really fun, if repetitive. And the style is just under P5

Overall probably like 4.5/10, wouldn’t recommend it to most but you might end up enjoying it.(2/2)
Pokémon Sword:
My first actual Pokémon game I’ve completed. I’ve always loved the world of Pokémon, and this game, despite it having a lot of a smaller flaws, was still able to win me over by the credits. Nothing amazing, but just a comfortable game imo
6/10 I might recommend
Pokémon Sword (continued):
Oh and also, the music was great most of the time
Gris:
An absolutely beautiful game. It does almost everything right. The gameplay at a just right difficulty, the art style is amazing, the music, and the way everything is up to interpretation is amazing. (1/2)
Gris (continued):
I don’t want to say much beyond that because I don’t want to spoil anything, like at all. Go in blind.
8.5/10
Animal Crossing New Horizons:
I love this game, but there’s some major flaws I have with it. Mainly: the awful menus and the lack of personality. The menus feel like this is someone’s first time making menus and ui. It’s just so fucking clunky. And the personality issue...
Animal Crossing New Horizons (continued):
...is a lot more problematic for the game, since it’s about living with people. Plainly: everyone is just nice. No depth. No interests nothing. They are less than one dimensional. I can never feel drawn into the game because of this.
Animal Crossing New Horizons (continued):
Otherwise, the game has a lot to love. A ton of customization. Beautiful and cute graphics. It’s really great and I suggest it if you want a more relaxed experience. 8/10
Golf Story:
This game really surprised me with how good it was. The golf mechanics were deep, but not confusing. They constantly mixed up the golf in ways I’d never expect. The story and dialogue was constantly fun I was engaged the entire time. The music...
Golf Story (continued):
...wasn’t really to my taste, but besides that, it was a very solid game. The gameplay might not be for everyone, but I’d suggest checking it out. 7/10.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD:
You can’t convince me someone play tested this game. There’s no balance. There’s awful level and boss design. There’s not much fun to be found. The idea is fun in concept, but, in practice, it does not work. Skip this one. 3/10.
A Hat in Time (+DLC):
This was an amazing 3D platformer. One of the best I’ve played. Tight controls, vibrant worlds, great characters, and amazing dialogue. There’s also a plethora of content (especially if you buy the dlc, which is worth it if you enjoyed the game).
A Hat in Time (continued):
My only big complaints are about the optimization for switch, because it’s not good. At all. Buy it on PC if you can. Otherwise, there’s a few things that could be tweaked (time stop yarn requirements, etc.) but overall, a stellar game. 8.5/10.
Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright: Justice for All:
I’m really mixed on this game. There’s a lot here to like, but there’s also a lot to dislike. The stories here aren’t amazing. The twist are obvious or stupid. The first trial was such a blatant and somewhat boring tutorial...
Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright: Justice for All (continued):
The third case was boring through and through. Though, I do like the new psyche lock mechanic, since it gives a clear objective during investigations. But when this game is at it’s highs, it’s an amazingly captivating...
Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright: Justice for All (continued):
...story. Especially the final case. The final case is spectacular, and is enough to make me look at this game fondly, despite it’s faults in areas. I recommend this game for chapter 2 and 4 alone. 7.5/10
Okami HD:
An amazing game. The sense of adventure and discovery is always at the forefront and it excels at those aspects. While the story kind of begins to dull down in the middle, it picks right back up after a little bit. Even through the dull bit, I was never not enjoying it.
Okami HD (continued):
The world and characters where always fresh and entertaining despite the quality of the overall story at the time. The battles weren’t all too great, but the bosses were mostly really good. I definitely recommend this game. 8/10
Paper Mario Color Splash:
So this is kinda a weird game. The writing and worlds are fun. It’s really fun to explore the environments of each level. The game looks gorgeous. But one of the biggest factors of the game, battles, aren’t amazing. I wouldn’t call them bad...
Paper Mario Color Splash (continued):
...they don’t really work all to well. They’re kinda fun, but in practice it discourages battles, making it mediocre. It’s a fun game, but with a big part of it being kinda flawed. I recommend if you just wanna have a fun, casual time. 7/10.
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle:
I’m gonna make a bold statement here: this game is a quintessential crossover. It takes the worlds of Mario and Rabbids, and it mashes them up an unexpected, yet fitting way. The SRPG battles are fun, and the movement options make it still feel...
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (+ DK Adventure) (cont.):
...like a Mario game. The cutscenes are fun and the puzzles are goods. My only real issues are technical, because there is some slowdown and graphical bugs, but nothing with the gameplay. And the DK Adventure DLC...
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (+ DK Adventure) (cont.):
...mixes up the game enough, while still giving a similar experience, to have made it a worthwhile purchase. I really recommend this, especially if your a fan of either of the franchises. Solid 8/10.
Paper Mario:
Good start to the series. It’s a bit of a basic Mario RPG, but it has the excuse of being the first Paper Mario. My issue with the game is the level design is kinda boring to explore most of the game. Otherwise it’s just a solid Mario rpg. Nothing more nothing less.
Paper Mario (continued):
All things considered, just a solid game and start to the series, so probably 6.5/10
