Makes no sense that a virus this contagious would take 2-3 months to reach USA.
No sense that first “community exposure” would happen outside of ATL/CHI/NYC/LA, travel hubs of the entire world.

My best guess is that this has been community contagious for 6-8 weeks in USA with hundreds of thousands infected/carrying.
The more I read into this, the more I think @LokiJulianus has nailed it.
This virus is HORRIBLE when combined with other infections/pathogens/illnesses.

We in USA tend to DRAMATICALLY underestimate how clean and sterile our lives are compared with the rest of the world, especially in high density cities of the East.
Would not be surprised to discover that my family has this virus 4-6 week ago

Lots of USA folks have had it/have it, no tests for it, and not really a problem here because it rarely combined with the multiplier factors (awful air/water/sanitation) in other places

Many people, esp from San Fran and NY are DM me that they know lots of people who had mysterious “flu” in Jan and Feb.

If everyone in USA was magically tested right now, what would be your estimate as to number of total infected persons thus far?
