it’s late, but w/e. do any mutuals do work or studying surrounding the black muslim experience?? preferably done by Muslims who identify as such.
currently reading The Walking Qur’an by rudolph t ware and loving it, but I wonder what else is out there. I need more!!

I’ve been thinking a lot about how out of place I feel in secular radical academics AND how unwelcoming Islamic studies can be as a black woman.
radical/intersectional feminism is everything to me, but I have a very difficult time finding what feels (and is) right Islamically within that field and have found little guidance. I have to do my own investigation & nag my mentors when I get lost
and even within Islamic study circles, being a black muslim woman is difficult because so much of Islamic scholarship is dominated by non-black men who pay little attention to issues that pertain to us.. and even weaponize the religion against us soooo...
what I’m saying is, if you share this experience, talk to me!! what do you do to combat this in your academic and religious studies? in your worship? are you committed to studying these things?

y’all got books, articles, blogs, authors, twitter ppls that you can share w me??
