This statement is a distillation of the problem with the politics of the black church
"now you've got black lives matter"
Y'all better stop hating on these activist and find ways to support the work
First... Many black faith spaces employ a rubric of human dignity that is rooted in white supremacy
It is steeped in respectability, homophobia and xenophobia
Y'all better catch it... Jesus goes where the work is... Y'all want the work to come to you
The liberation of black people is not found in the approval of the white bosom
We better get with it and advocate for the improvement of the material conditions of black folks
You got black lives matter because there was a vacuum in the advocacy for the lives of black folks
Black lives matter is not your adversary... It's your wake up call
It's your wake up call that your degrees, status, income, or neighborhood won't save your black life
It's your wake up call that black mothers three times more likely to die in child birth
It's your wake up call that black communities are twice as likely to be the centers of environmental disasters
It's your wake up call that black folks are still systemically resource deprived
It's your wake up call that queer black kids struggle to find love and support... And they still gonna be gay after you pray it away
It's your wake up call to gentrification and displacement of black folks...
The conflict we have in church is we believe that the socio political is not spiritual... But you follow a Christ that said "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
Beloved... The spiritual is political
Wake up
