Serge Gnabry- A Thread

Once labelled not good enough for West Brom, Gnabry is a star quietly rising to fame, providing 1.13 goal contributions per 90 mins with 10 goals and 8 assists in the Bundesliga. Ahead of Bayern’s clash with Chelsea, let’s examine the winger.
Gnabry primary position is on the right-wing, yet his versatility, which can be seen below, allows coaches to deploy him in multiple positions where he is still able to thrive. He stands at 5ft 7 yet his posses a sturdy frame allowing to outmuscle opposition.
Today we will be analysing at his movement, the quality of his final ball, looking at some more strength and weakness of his game as well as future prospects and potential summer destinations. Below are some images to help you understand the type of player he is.
Gnabry has quality movement and running intensity with him completing 1,420 intensitive runs this season and 551 sprints. His high football IQ is conveyed in his direct, well-timed and intelligent runs using his speed of around 34km per hour to get into dangerous areas in behind.
His movement on the ball is also excellent. The German tends to drop deeper to receive the ball and drag out his marker before using his impressive acceleration and agility to breeze past them and create space for himself.
He also displays his intelligent in the box, making well-timed runs and using his expert positioning to increase his goal chances. The image below is his position and xG for all of his career goals revealing how he uses his football IQ to provide himself with facile goal chances.
What puts Gnabry above the other wingers is the quality of his final ball, both to create and score. His shot on target percentage and goals per shot stand at 42.4% and 0.15 per shot, both of these higher than Salah displaying his ability to convert his opportunities into goals.
The aspect of his play which is the most impressive is his two footedness. Gnabry is clearly comfortable with either foot using his weaker foot for 36% of his shots. Gnabry's exceptional finishing and movement results in some extremely impressive goal tallies that will only grow.
He also contributes to the team in the creative aspects of the game. His 2.11 key passes per90 convey this. He has a very good final ball across goal and has created multiple goalscoring opportunities from this. He drops in between lines shown in his passing map below.
A trait that I like of his is his ability slightly drop and play the simple pass opening up space in the opposition block before making a run to and receiving the ball back allowing him to play the ball in providing a potential assist.

Dotted lines=Pass
Arrows=Player run
His movement and finishing ability are his two standout qualities. (The two more important attributes for a winger of his profile.) Gnabry also posses and all-around good game. He is technically sound and has 83% passing completion also contributing defensively tracking the FB.
Improvement on the ball is needed with him only completing 53% of his dribbles in Bundesliga, a league where defender quality is lower compared to other top 5 leagues. Another minor weakness of his game is his quality in the air with him only winning 33% of his aerial duels.
Serge Gnabry is an overall excellent player and someone who deserves recognition as one of the best wingers in the world, if not the best. In terms of future ambitions, he could continue to stay at Bayern, and no doubt go on to retire as a legend.
In terms of other European clubs which could suit his profile. I think Mr Klopp should undoubtedly have him on his watchlist. A player who Klopp was previously interested in, Gnabry would no doubt thrive in the German's set up and given the intensity of his system.
As there is a high chance Mane and Salah’s legs could start to tire Klopp would want to refresh his squad to avoid a repeat of the disastrous season he experienced at Dortmund. He is a similar profile of player to Salah and will certainly challenge if not surpass his goal tally.
Serge Gnabry is a top player who will no doubt make a huge impact tonight against Chelsea, the rest of the season and for years to come as he establishes himself as the best winger in world football. Thank you for reading my thread, please like RT and follow for more facts.
