i love it when writers are like “buhhh i should just write ROMANCE, it would be so much EASIER” as though writing a good sex scene isn’t the hardest and most terrifying thing they could ever attempt in their whole fiction-writing lives

romance writers are braver than any u.s. marine. writing a hot, effective sex scene takes so much skill & talent, and on TOP of that, the fear of writing an unsexy sex scene that doesn’t get ANYBODY hot is enough to make you lie facedown on the bathroom floor & never get up again

this is why so many Serious Literary Writers can only write repulsive sex scenes that are meant to be uncomfortable and sad. they don’t have the bravery or the chops to be sexy, so they fall back on irony
