mike asked john “do you think we’re a cheap imitation of The Beatles, your movies and your records?” to which john replied “i think you’re the greatest comedic talents since the marx brothers. I’ve never missed one of your programmes”
george harrison, when asked about the monkees replied; “it’s obvious what’s happening - there’s talents there... when they get it all sorted out, they might turn out to be the best!”
on february 10, 1967, peter, mike and micky visited the beatles at abbey road while the beatles were working on “a day in the life”.
the beatles also hung out with peter and micky in LA when they’d visit. The Byrds were part of that mix as well.
the beatles (along with brian epstein) hosted a party for the monkees during the recording sessions for “sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band” when they visited england
george harrison had also invited peter tork to play banjo on his “wonderwall music” soundtrack
In 1995, Ringo Starr even did this tounge in cheek commercial with The Monkees for Pizza Hut where he proclaims The Monkees are, “The Wrong Lads”…
