If coronavirus community transmission becomes as disruptive to everyday life as seems possible, Mitch McConnell will take to the podium to drawl, “My friends across the aisle want to engage in partisan finger pointing rather than solutions.” So let’s do that finger pointing now.
They will try to rewrite the history of what they did during the window of opportunity, but the facts are Trump has spread misinformation, fact free opitimism, and defied expert advice. Let alone tried to eliminate the department formed to handle just this sort of pandemic.
I think every Democrat, especially candidates should be highlighting the administration’s disorganized scramble to deal with this, not to score political points but because it cuts to the heart of the dangers of a reality show in the White House.
Also, it provides a stark example of the dangers of an anti-science party on an urgent basis, as opposed to climate where the effects are less immediate. (Though looking more immediate than previously thought.)
If there’s one thing every Democrat should know in their bones it’s that he will try to deflect blame for things that are his fault. Get out in front of that. If nothing else to help the scientists & professionals that are working valiantly on this through the confusion.
Obviously I hope I’m wrong on this, but prepare for the worst, hope for the best actually does require some action on that first part.
The markets. This is when you really want your President to worry about his portfolio. https://twitter.com/chrislu44/status/1229157181188169733?s=21 https://twitter.com/ChrisLu44/status/1229157181188169733
If Democrats have been asking for weeks, they need to do it LOUDER. https://twitter.com/ddiamond/status/1231439268847013889?s=20
