I am starting a thread below that will expand to link together all of the traditionally Tory, Catholic (and other faiths), and historically conservative, writing that I have found interesting, as well as some of my own pieces. "In My Defens God Me Defend"

Program for any “principled conservatism” conference:
- Papal States restored
- Holy Roman Empire restored
- Iran’s Shah restored
- Trianon repudiated
- a Spanish & Carlist California
- Republics done right: the Venetians
- Lvov & Konigsberg: Whither?
- getting liberals sober
Excellent chart explaining why Catholic social teaching & its political thought cannot easily fit the reductive political and especially party labels of our times. It has, though, informed a good deal of traditional conservative & Christian democratic thinking for centuries now.
My periodic reminder:
A/ using law & the state to promote virtue & punish vice is conservatism.
B/ using law & the state to make virtue & vice indistinguishable is liberalism.
C/ allowing 'the market' to decide which vice is the most profitable is libertarianism.
Apropos ongoing debates on Catholicism vs liberalism: Successive Popes preached against slavery for centuries. The Popes also preached for reparations to be paid to those enslaved. All long before any 'liberal enlightenment' & its guillotines.

"Imago Dei"
One of those days in which one can only lament the needless and catastrophic demise of Germany's Centre Party & its tragic consequences for the rest of German history.
Whatever all our small squabbles, a Christian and esp Catholic politics should always try first and foremost to be a bridge - one may even say it should make for a 'pontifex' - for all & esp those who would otherwise be trapped between the monstrosities of Red and Brown. #Zentrum
