Today i had an interview with two pioneers of the liberation struggle David Tau and Moffat Hadebe. David Tau is an ANC / UMkhonto Wesizwe veteran. He operated in Zimbabwe btwn 1980 - 1994 as an MK cadre and did not go back to SA after independence . #Asakhe
Tau and Hadebe were part of the Sipolilo campaign a joint operation btwn ANC and ZAPU. They were arrested in 1968 .Tau was sentenced to death then his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. Hadebe was also sentenced to life in prison.
They were released from prison in 1980.Moffat was arrested again in 1982 after the arms cache and spent another 3 yrs at Chikurumbi max prison.
They reunitef after the release of Hadebe from Chikurumbi and started working with MK cadres helping them to get Zimbabwean IDs so that it will be easy for them to stay in Bulawayo and Matebeleland South provinces
Hadebe also worked at Black cat removals a ZIPRA/ MK company which was set up to transport weapons from Zim to SA.
Quite a number of senior MK cadres who are now Generals and Major Generals of the SA defence forces were issued with Zimbabwean IDs and this was facilitated by ZPRA/ ZAPU leadership
