[THREAD] The lack of respect given to Kyrie Irving’s amazing three-pointer in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals still irritates me to this day...
The LeBron James block in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals happened with 1:50 left, and the Cavs couldn’t score directly after. The Kyrie shot came with under a minute left, it was the first shot made since the 4:39 mark, and also the last shot made in the game for either team.
The LBJ block was great, no doubt, but the fact is the score was still tied close to a minute after it happened. That block won no titles. Also, as it became a struggle for both teams to score for a few minutes, each shot gained more pressure as time went on.
This is what makes Kyrie’s shot even more amazing. The scoring drought added tons of pressure to the shot, and if that didn’t make it hard enough, it was a pull-up 3 falling away from the basket. That’s way more difficult to pull off than a chase down block if we’re being honest.
These are the reasons why I will always rate the shot > the block. IMO, the shot won the Cavs the title that year. The shot will never be given the lack of respect by me that some fans and members of the media have given it.
