Today, Iran conducted its 6th space launch since UNSC resolution 2231 endorsed the JCPOA in July 2015. Different interpretations of the missiles’ related provisions have created disagreements between the signatories over the legality of these launches. 2. The E3 believe that such launches are inconsistent with 2231’s annex B bc the technology is similar to what is required for the development of ICBM missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons. No country has ever managed this transition though.
3. Iran denies such similarities/intent and argues that space launch vehicles is “part of a scientific and technological activity related to the use of space technology”.
