"On television, men's feelings... are nearly always depicted as more important than women's comfort or women's safety."

like how stefan pushes elena into a wall & the audience is made to feel bad for him bc "he lost control" and not elena who just got abused by her boyfriend.
how in s4/s5 elena's labelled as a "heartbreaker" and pressured into feeling guilty bc she decided she didn't want to be with stefan anymore while the audience is made to feel bad for stefan despite the horrible way he treated her during their relationship.
in contrast, when delena break up in s5, damon’s misery is mocked by jeremy and matt while caroline talks about elena being better off. so elena is seen as the lesser half in her relationship with stefan, but with damon she’s considered “too good for him.”
so elena haters and elena stans shipping preferences makes sense. most stelena stans see elena as less than stefan while most delena stans see elena as better than or equal to damon.
how the narrative solely blamed elena for the downfall of stelena’s relationship while stefan’s lying, manipulation and abuse was completely overlooked and never acknowledged.

the narrative made elena the problem and stefan, the innocent victim.
in contrast, damon and his impulsiveness was the reason behind delena's break up in s5. the blame and fault wasn't put on elena, it was rightfully put on damon.
