@BCampbellCBS @Rafeboogs okay, got 4 minutes into the latest @StateofCombat boxeo podcast and had to turn it off, join twitter to set you straight. I know you have nothing but affection for Dean Lonergan, so FYI, Dean is from New Zealand and in his day was a rugby league hardman
League is a different form of rugby to the more well known Rugby Union which the NZ All Blacks dominate, league is mostly played in Australia and internationally dominated by the Australian Kangaroos, a couple of times a year the Kangaroos play the NZ national team the Kiwis
In an international test match between the Kangaroos and Kiwis in 1991, Dean Lonergan clashed heads on the first tackle of the game, he was on the ground convulsing while the game played on, as shown here
With what we know now, rightly or wrongly he later returned to the field and played the rest of the test, watch the match highlights below and look for Lonergan in the number 12 jersey
So yeah, when he says "bang it full of cortisone and get on with it", he means it.
After his league career, Lonergan got in event promotion, in the early 2000s he started The Fight for Life, a yearly charity boxing event pitting ex-rugby league players against ex-rugby union players,
He got into boxing promotion proper when he joined with Joseph Parker's promoter, David Higgins, together they promoted David Tua's last fight, Jeff Horn would be on the Parker and Tua undercards, you should get him on podcast again!
