Thread of games I’ve beaten in 2020:
First one I beat this year was DUSK.
A pretty strong start for me this year. It was absolutely excellent.
A pretty strong start for me this year. It was absolutely excellent.
after that was Doom. I beat all four episodes. It was pretty great overall, but I will forever hate “Thy Flesh Consumed.”
Then it was a quick replay of Portal 2 (just the single-player campaign)
Up next was Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. I’m aware you don’t really “finish” a Monster Hunter game, but I consider it “beaten” after finishing the main story and then getting the credits roll.
AI: The Somnium Files. This is easily Uchikoshi's best work to date, and has landed itself as one of my all-time favorite games. I loved every minute of this. An absolute masterpiece full of memorable characters.
Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk DX was next! I originally played this on Vita a few years ago, but a replaying on Switch reminded me why it's one of my all-time favorite RPGs. The artwork, battle mechanics, synthesis system, and music are all just so, so, so good.
Pokemon Shield! After about 45 hours in, completing the main story and the post-story quest, I can honestly say this is one of my favorite Pokemon games to date. Camping & cooking with your Pokemon, the gym challenges, Dynamax raids; it's all pretty fantastic!
Atelier Escha & Logy! I'm glad to have finally played this all the way through. The new battle and synthesis mechanics were a welcome change, giving one even more options. The soundtrack and art are absolutely on-point as well. Just like Ayesha, E&L is nothing short of great.
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan was one I never planned to beat, but it just kind of happened. I loved Elite Beat Agents (still do) so I started playing it, just to check it out. I wound up finishing it all in one go (on Medium). Despite a few hiccups, it's still quite fun.
DOOM Eternal is an unparalleled first person shooter. You won't find a smoother, gorier, or more exhilarating experience from any other FPS title. This game grinds you into pulp and keeps you begging for more. It is an absolute must-play.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood. I've finished the Main Scenario Quests for 4.0 through 4.56! I originally started playing back in November 2016, going through all the content, occasionally taking hiatuses, but now I've FINALLY beaten SB! I cannot wait to play Shadowbringers!
Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I finally came back to this one after taking an extremely long break from it. XC2 is an absolutely fantastic game that starts off pretty slow, but the pay-off was very, very well-worth it. I'm so happy that I came back to this game and finished it.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons. DEFINITELY the best Animal Crossing game in the series to date, not that it invalidates the previous entries, but it does a pretty great job on adding tons of new content and refreshing staples of the series as well.
BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle! I bought this when it was on sale for a $5, and I've had some decent fun playing this, as well as seeing all the different character interactions in Episode Mode, even if I'm not terribly familiar with RWBY or Under-Night.
Streets of Rage! A decently fun and somewhat tough arcade experience with some killer music. Everyone should give this game a try.
Final Fantasy VII! This is the first Final Fantasy game I've ever beaten! Despite having heard so much about it, I never imagined I'd actually enjoy it as much as I did, but it blew me away. It was a fantastic experience.
