→ Reviews of Films I’ve Watched in 2020 in One Tweet
JOKER is an extremely overrated film that’s dramatic elements feel unintentionally funny. Bolstered solely by Robert De Niro’s presence in the film, it fails to justify most of it’s Oscar nominations or to give any sort of real, intelligent commentary on society.
THE TWO POPES is a well made, well acted film. It isn’t, however, a particularly exceptional film and failed to keep me invested in the plot or the characters. It has nothing interesting to say about either the Catholic Church or the titular two popes.
1917 is the best made film I’ve seen in a long time. While it lacks a compelling story, George MacKay’s performance more than makes up for the lack of character building. The cinematography is also a highlight, and it’ll be a travesty if Roger Deakins loses the Oscar.
MISS AMERICANA is a documentary made to be enjoyed the most by Taylor Swift fans, but I would also recommend it to others, maybe even detractors, because the film does a great job detailing her life & career. Her political awakening as depicted in the film touched me the most.
BIRDS OF PREY is a delightful film that I really enjoyed. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ewan McGregor stole the show and were my favorite parts. It was funny and by far the most enjoyable DC film I’ve seen. I loved it’s use of the female gaze, and misogynists can kindly fuck off.
