In 1970, photographer Chris Morphet (pictured below) travelled to the Shetland Isles to document the Fair Isle industry.

Fair Isle knitting originated on the remote island of Fair Isle, which lies midway between the Orkney and Shetland.
The traditional knitwear of Fair Isle and its intricate skill have been practised continuously for generations upon generations.

Crosses and lozenge shaped hexagons containing symbols, sometimes of a religious nature usually formed the basic OXO pattern.
