Can we, as a Fandom, make a concerted effort to prevent and manage "ConCrud"?
A thread.
This year has been particularly bad. Watching my mate incapacitated and shivering with a sudden onset fever for an 8 hour drive was frankly terrifying. -->

I really do not believe that people are taking transmission of illness seriously at large gatherings. It& #39;s dangerous, and unsanitary.
The fandom is all about hugs and good nature, which is wonderful, but problematic. We have people coming in from all over the country -->

hugging, petting, and closely socializing with many others in elevators, closed humid rooms, packed party floors, and touching literally everything in the convention space.

Even one flu hauling critter will leave a disgusting snail trail of germs across hundreds of people, objects, art, suits, elevator buttons, solo cups, you name it, not to mention whatever becomes airborne.
People MUST take this more seriously. -->

I have ended up sick, when starting out healthy, at more conventions than I have not. It& #39;s debilitating. It& #39;s expensive, and as I age, it& #39;s potentially dangerous. Somehow I missed this years mess, but MANY of you did not. -->
Entire shared households got it this go round, and while it seems to be a rapid and annoying but ultimately harmless seasonal flu this time, next time it may not be.
Proper hygiene is an old fandom joke, but it& #39;s not terribly funny any more. -->

If you are sick, STAY HOME. The convention and your friends will be there next year. If you are fine, and then feel ill and sick, GO HOME. If you are not able to, AVOID CONTACT, COVER YOUR MOUTH, WASH YOUR HANDS, DONT TOUCH YOUR EYES, and importantly TELL PEOPLE YOU ARE SICK -->
As the Fandom population ages sudden strong illness can very well be life threatening. Folks don& #39;t shed crud like they once could, and recovery can take weeks, or longer. This is no "lulz, take a shower" joke. This problem sucks. It sucks a lot. It is hurting people -->
ConCrud is preventable! Do your part to curb it BEFORE it spreads. Inform your friends if they don& #39;t know, many folks simply don& #39;t. This illness cycle happens like clockwork. We and our behavior are causing it, and we MUST educate and change how we treat con illness!
