The 'Art that Sid likes' thread. Starting off with J.C. Leyendecker.

Howard Pyle. 'When the World was Young.'
I'm a sucker for great romance paintings. There's a razor-thin line between honest or just theatrical for any subject, but most romance pictures in particular fall on the wrong side into schmalz. So, I love seeing it done well.

Howard Pyle. 'The Mermaid'
Another favorite. This was Pyle's last painting, which he left unfinished - he died while on a trip with his family in Italy at 58.

Howard Pyle. 'An Attack on a Galleon'
I can't actually make a top 10 favorite paintings, but if I had to, this one would make it in.

Harvey Dunn.
You might have noticed that the same 5-8 names keep popping up in this thread. That will continue. The 80/20 rule very much applies to my favorite artists.

N.C. Wyeth. 'Blind Pew'
Btw, this piece is 1) Enormous, and 2) nowhere near this yellow, especially where the underpainting shows. I haven't seen a good photo of it online, but it's much moodier and bluer.

N.C. Wyeth. 'The Giant'
I'd posted a picture of a rather bad copy earlier without realizing it. Thanks @FerraraKev for the real one!
