So ends another few days of over-romanticised drivel about FA Cup.
The reason the FA Cup has gone wrong is because of the FAu2019s incompetence & envy of Premier Leagueu2019s commercial success. They have failed to keep up and make the cup as relevant as it was.
All this u2018PL & CL league clubs are only interested in u00a3u00a3. Have FA & EFL not tried to be richer? If people running them over many yrs were not hopeless - & facilitating so many unfit, improper owners - their cups would be more valued & they wouldn& #39;t so often appear in crisis.
Say what you like about Premier League - too powerful, too greedy, too arrogant, not doing enough to preserve u2018soulu2019 of game - all fair comment at times. But FA and EFL have been no grand custodians of the English game & its traditions. They have been appalling for years.
But they can always rely on the nostalgia industry to sneer at the PL and CL clubs who naturally pursue mega millions of a high placed finish or European progress over minimal cash reward of domestic cup progress. Itu2019s a great deflection the FA/EFL do not deserve.
So we get this unadulterated garbage about how wonderfully u2018realu2019 pitch invasions are, chuckles at lousy surfaces which increase injury risk, & mocking from those who should no better about empty seats stadiums for second string games. Common sense goes AWOL in FA Cup weeks.
Of course all these organisations (PL/FA/EFL) are as bad as each on hypocrisy scale. In one breath they claim Sat, 3pm kicks offs cannot be facilitated because game must MODERNISE. In next they say those moaning about fixture congestion/demands on players must accept TRADITION
So on we go with same arguments every Jan/Feb. Those extremely fortunate to watch elite football every week told they MUST enjoy watching vastly inferior standard coz of a goal by Ronnie Radford 50 yrs ago.
Yes, the FA Cup was great ONCE. But nothing is more likely to turn you off than being told something is still great when it plainly isnu2019t.
