why dan and blair should've been endgame: a thread
- they shared a lot of the same interests. they bonded over watching movies and discussing art, and never stopped even after getting together. THEY LITERALLY WATCHED A MOVIE TOGETHER OVER THE PHONE ON VALENTINE'S DAY bc they were both feeling alone
- they weren't essentially "likable" characters but they brought out the best in each other. dan learned not to be judgemental and blair matured and got over her childish schemes
- dan was a selfless friend when it came to blair. he kept insisting for her to read the DNA results although it didn't benefit him in any way, and tried to reconcile her and chuck despite his feelings for her
- they're the only two characters who matched each other intellectually. their banter made their scenes the more entertaining bc neither of them could actually outwit the other
- the main reason their relationship was the healthiest is that they were honest with each other. whenever they had even the smallest disagreement, they'd talk it out hence they never went to bed angry (reminds me of taylor's "you should never leave a fight unresolved")
- they both represented development in each other's arcs. dan was attracted to serena because of this flawless image he created for her, but loved blair despite their initial hostility. on the other hand, blair learned not to look down on others bc of their social status
- blair had always been in serena's shadow. the latter always got picked first and slept with blair's fiance. additionally, chuck chose a fucking hotel over her. until dan made her the star of his book (and the fact that serena's ex chose blair over her 🤭)
- when blair read louis's vows (which dan had written) she claimed he peered into her soul, therefore proving that dan is the only one who genuinely got her
- she often felt trapped in her relationship with chuck, admitting it brought her to a very dark place. contrarily,,, "dan is my best friend and when we're together i feel strong and safe"
- dorota also noticed how lively blair looked during the period she and dan's friendship started blossoming ("i've found my center that's all")
- they were the only ship that took time to fall in love. they went from rivals to frenemies to best friends to lovers in the course of five seasons
- they had their misunderstandings bc of the different backgrounds but always managed to work it out somehow since they realized they didn't have to choose between two world ("our relationship is our world")
- blair felt like she had to prove herself and become as successful in order to deserve chuck's love. instead, dan made it clear that his or her success shouldn't define her self-worth
- even before they became friends, she'd always come to him for advice once or twice every season bc although they didn't want to admit it, they were the only ones who truly understood each other ("evil dictator of taste" really stuck with her, didn't it?)
- they bickered like an old married couple and if that wasn't a good sign then idk what is anymore
- "i want her to be happy"
"i think i know how to make you happy"
"i want you to be happy"
- "he cares about you, not in spite of who you are, but because of it"
!!!!!!!
- they portrayed their relationship like they'd been dating for YEARS: they would make plans for the day, meet up for lunch, etc... even though they had just started going out. with chuck, blair was always unsure and they weren't stable
- ELEVATOR SEX. NEED I SAY MORE?
