we have a, uh, bat in the archive

he's um having a nap
Surely @beansvelocci will have a thought about the bat living above them while they worked at the Kinsey
update: the bat woke up. He is Upset

I can't blame him, Mondays are rough.

he is doing a Menacing Flap so we have retreated
we called the @IUBloomington's facilities maintenance people

They have dispatched their Finest Men with Nets
update: our Bat Friend has decided that the aesthetic was sufficiently spooky and has gone back to sleep.

This room is shared with @IUBEnglish so I'm rather disappointed that none of them are here to offer a poem about bats. That's what English majors do, right, basically bards?
(I speak as a former English major)

Someone told us about the dead bats they've found in stairwells in archive days of yore. No living ones yet! Our Batty friend seems to be snoozin again
update: the Men in Nets (Netty Nets!) have Arrived
they have netted our Bat Friend safely, who actually looks as pleased as one can be when covered in Nets

"ah yes," he seems to be thinking "finally, some gd professionals"
The Men with Nets are bringing him to a vet, who will then release him somewhere appropriate

read: not an archive

happy monday everyone
. @TheMERL and @kinseyinstitute now have something in common.

unfortunately we can't issue Bat Friend a library card, because we don't have those.

that's right!! No library card needed to visit one of the world's greatest collections on sexuality and education! Just be 18+
(or have a parents permission) and you too can look at Rembrandts, unique films, primary sources, diaries, and one of the finest rare book collections in the world
update: there are now Many Men In Gear here to search the whole ceiling for bats! We might have a whole colony up there 🦇🦇🦇
final update: we have a patched hole in the roof and a bat monitor installed to inform us of any New Friends

First Bat Friend is at the vet and will be rehomed to a local bat colony where he will have far more friends but far less research material—prob healthier all in all
