(Thread): I took this photo in February of 2016. It was your retirement year. I’d just moved to Chicago, alone, was working a minimum-wage job, but bought a nosebleed ticket to this game because I knew I had to see you play.
I grew up in Iowa watching you on TV, mesmerized by your artistry and awestruck by your resilience. I watched you battle the Celtics in the 2008 Finals, and win back-to-back titles (and Finals MVP’s) in 2009 and 2010. I watched with my dad in 2013 when you tore your Achilles.
Knowing your fate, you got up, walked(!) to the line, and sunk 2 free throws that ended up helping your team clinch a Playoff spot - before walking to the bench in tears. You had a tremendous impact on how I approached the game (and all the game carries with it) as a player.
